Post by: mal23 on June 08, 2015, 12:08:21 pm
Does anyone know which windows update prevented the NIS log in Win 7 MSE having a manual turn off option?

NIS?

If you mean Norton Internet Security then none of the windows updates have anything to do with NIS having an option like that, windows updates cant change the program code of someone else programs.

I dont use norton, ever lol so I dont know of what options it should have but I can always search and see what i can find.

Malcolm means the Network Inspection System which is part of MSE and the option to disable it was removed when MSE went from v2.0 to v4.0 to prevent users from leaving their computer vulnerable, but more experienced users weren't happy as they were disabling that feature to troubleshoot. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_scanning/cant-disable-network-inspection-anymore/d207509c-a4fb-45cb-a1d6-cda149c19411

Ah!

Thanks for that, NIS is used so much to mean norton, so thats what I thought. He is the first user to ask about Network Inspection System in mse lol

Not always good to use the abbreviations

As for MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) MS most likely pushed out a new versions of it and disabled it. None of the other system updates affect it, MSE is a program by itself, so any changes to it and going to be done directly, so check and see if you had a new version of it installed.
