Regsitry Backup (Step 4) not working
« on: February 16, 2013, 04:08:38 pm »
Don't know if this is a computer problem or a tweaking problem:

Registry backup just hangs - Waiting for Volume Shadow Copy snapshot.
I found another post that has 8 steps to try.  I tried all the steps.  On step #6, the command vssadmin delete shadows /all just hangs up and does not do anything (for an hour).  I can not create a restore point manually from the Control Panel - system protection.  It also just hangs with "Searching" in the Protection Setting text box for Available Drives.  Everything else on that tab is greyed out.

I ran the Windows Repair v1.9.7, anyway, and here are the problems from the log.

The system cannot find the file specified.
'proxycfg.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

ICS is set to auto  I started it and it started, then stopped and told me it only starts when requested.
Windows Installer is set to manual and running.
Windows update is set to auto (Trigger Start) and running.
Volume Shadow Copy is manual and running.

Any help would be appreciated.

My reg backup program will wait for the VSS until it is ready or gives an error. If it never finishes then the VSS isnt working correctly. What you can do is in the reg backup program, go to settings, then advanced settings. There put a check on always use fallback method at the top.

The program will not use VSS and it will be able to make a backup :-)
