All In One Repair & Tweaks
« on: December 12, 2012, 01:26:06 pm »
Hi this is my first post.

I would to start to say thanks to the creator of these programs. I have some questions.

I have two laptops one is XP and the other is Vista.

With the XP machine the difference these programs made was alot more sigificant than the Vista.

Straight after i run the All in One Program the XP machine runs really well (even on dial up internet) but after approximately one week it starts to slow down alot, so i run the program again (same again runs really well) then slows down alot, and so on, and so on.

Is there anything i can do?

I run programs Advast, Malwarebytes on both machines, and scan before i run the programs.

I haven't run the SFC on the XP machine. Which disc and part of the disc would i use?

With the Vista machine the program made hardly any difference, very, very slow. It never use to be.

Thank you very much, youyr help is appreciated.

The repair program wouldn't speed anything up. The simple system tweaker should help improve things though.

At the same time the bottle neck of performance in a system is the hard drive. Vista was a flop and was known to get slower and slower as you use it.

Thanks Shane

Getting right away from the Vista machine (no hope).

Keeping in mind i am trying to learn, excuse the questions.

With the XP machine why does running the All In One Repair improve the performance as soon as i run it, but after about a week the performance drops off rather suddenly?

Which disc would i run for the SFC?

Thanks again

Not sure why it would speed anything up. The simple system tweaker should help speed things up though.

In fact the Repair tool puts services and things like that back to default. Where the simple system tweaking turns off some unneeded ones.

After running the repair you should run the tweaker tool and reboot.

You may also want to install the free version of my CleanMem tool on my pcwintech.com site. It will help keep memory under control

Is it rebooting on its own? Otherwise in vista that 3 of 3 stage is known to take a while.

Yes it is rebooting on its own, keeps doing it.

I don't know which update it will be to "hide", windows are sending alot of updates lately.

Can i setup CleanMem to clean memory and cache on certain times, e.g. boot up, when i can get it to boot?

Thanks again

CleanMem gives you all kins of control :-)

http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem-help

CleanMem itself runs from the task scheduler while you can use the cleanmem monitor as well. The free versions till does all the work. The pro is just extra features so dont worry about those and is only for the mini monitor.

Hi Shane thank you

By default it will clean the memory + cache every 15minutes?

Also i noticed that in the task scheduler there where tasks that where left over from programs that i have deleted, would that slow the computer down much?

Yes that is the default for cleanmem.

As for any left over tasks remove them if you dont need them :-)

Hi Shane any idea on this?

Configuring updates stage 3 of 3 -0% complete

It continues to boot on its own continuously, until it is  turned off manually (power button).

Thanks in advance

Hi Shane thank you, yeah not the best.

I currently use CCleaner and Wise Registry Cleaner, both free, are these ok or do you reccomend something else?

Thanks

Stay away from reg cleaners. If one wrong key is deleted it can take down the whole system. If you do use them make sure to make a reg backup

Hi Shane thank you.

Is CCleaner ok for cleaning files etc?

I just looked on the XP machine and there isn't alot of memory left 6GB out of 35GB. Is there anything i could do to turn things around, taking in to account the laptop is about 8 years old.

There seems to be alot of programs that say are rarely used, last used 3-5 years ago, but i have used them recently, i don't quite understand this.

When i manually use the Cache cleaner the memory  improves, with the mini monitor readings.

Is there a setting to set so it cleans the memory & cache when it gets to a certain number, can't see  this in the help file?

Thank you very much.

CCleaner is good.

You may want to uninstall any programs you dont need.

Yes but that is in the pro version of the mini monitor.

Thanks Shane

It seems to run out of puff after awhile (XP) but starts off good, even on Dialup.

Can i set the setting for cleaning the memory and cache to say every 5 minutes instead of default 15min?

THANKS AGAIN

Hi Shane thanks

I have attached a Word screen print of installed programs (Revo and Add/Remove).

Your advice to delete any that are a waste having on there would be appreciated.

Thanks again

That is up to you on what you want to remove.

Try running the Windows drive cleanup tool. Just when you run it make sure to uncheck the compress files. If you have it compress files your system will get a whole lot slower!

Do you mean disk cleanup, there's no drive cleanup?

Thank you
