Pre-Scan Fault
« on: April 05, 2021, 10:21:58 am »
Hello, I ran a Pre-Scan and have this error but cannot find the file on the internet to download and replace it with?

│ Scanning Windows Packages Files.
│ Started at (05/04/2021 18:06:08)

│ These Files Are Possibly Corrupt (Bad Digital Signature): (Total: 1)
C:\windows\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-Printing-WFS-FoD-Package-Wrapper~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~en-GB~10.0.19041.117.cat

1 Combined Problems were found with the packages files, these files need to be replaced (These mainly only effect installing Windows Updates.)
│ The SFC (System File Checker) doesn't scan and replace some of these files, so you may need to replace them manually.

│ THESE FILES DO NOT KEEP THE REPAIRS FROM WORKING; YOU MAY STILL RUN THE REPAIRS IN THE PROGRAM.

│ Files Checked & Verified: 3,326

│ Done Scanning Windows Packages Files.(05/04/2021 18:06:57)

Thanks!

At one time Shane used to supply Package files but because of the changes made to Win 10 by Microsoft, he was unable to keep up with them to download the relevant files.

I assume you are using Win 10 ?

Open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and enter these cmds and then try the pre-scan again.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Enter exit to close the cmd window and let me know how you get on.

All I can suggest is either a repair install which doesn't affect personal files or installed programs or a Reset where you would need to reinstall any 3rd party programs.

To perform a repair install you would need Win 10 install media which you can create after reading - https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

You don't need a product key.

When you have created the install media (DVD or USB) open Windows/File Explorer - This PC - insert the media and double click on its drive.

This will start the process when using a DVD but will open to its files when using an USB where you would then double click on setup Application.

To Reset - press and hold SHIFT throughout a Restart - click on Troubleshoot and then on Reset.

You will see the option to retain your personal files.

However, in the Pro version of WR there is an option to remove corrupt Package files under Advanced Repairs (Pro).
