Unable to Conduct Repairs / 4-Fail at Cleanmem
« on: March 17, 2021, 08:20:44 pm »
Computer is acting very strange. Was going to give this a shot at an almost "all-option" repair before I cleaned and re-installed. But I can't get past CleanMem. Any thoughts, ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Log follows:

The current repair has failed to start 4 times.
Something is keeping the repair from running.

Try running the repairs in Windows Safe Mode. (This will keep 3rd party programs from getting in the way of the repairs)
If the repairs still fail then please post in the Tweaking.com forums for support.

Open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and enter chkdsk /r

Follow the prompts then enter this cmd to effect an immediate reboot for the cmd to execute.

shutdown /r /t 00

When done, open Event Viewer ensuring Event Viewer (Local) is highlighted (just click on it if not) and when it has read the data, expand Windows Logs and click on Application/Action/Find and type chkdsk into the Find box then press enter.

Cancel the Find box and read the chkdsk log in the scrollable pane below.

Primarily you are looking to see if it reports any KBs in bad sectors.

If it does then it's advisable to immediately create a system image onto external media in preparation for full HDD failure.

If that comes back clean then open either a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and enter these cmds -

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfs /scannow

Enter exit to close the cmd window and check to see if the machine performs any better.

You could try the repair program again to see if it now progresses or perform a repair install if the machine still doesn't feel right.

A repair install doesn't affect personal files or installed programs which can save you a lot of time instead of a clean install.

To perform a repair install, open Windows/File Explorer - This PC and insert the install media.

Double click on its drive which will start the process if using a DVD but will open to its files when using an USB where you would then double click on setup Application.

When you are in Event Viewer you could also click on Error then on View all Instances of this Event in the lower right pane which may point to something that's making the machine ropey.

Clicking on any of the errors will produce more info in the pane below.

You can Google for any Event ID numbers to see if there are any resolutions posted.
