My game keeps crashing right when I first run it!
« on: September 15, 2020, 06:45:03 pm »
I have a game I have installed and its called Dracula 3 The Path of the Dragon.  My system specs are Dell Latitude E7470:

Windows 10 Pro 1909
8 GB of Ram
i7 6th generation CPU

This is not a gaming laptop but I have games installed.  I have read about windows 10 users playing this game so I know it works on windows 10.  If Im missing anything please let me know.  I have used compatibility settings for windows xp and windows 7 doesnt work.  Im trying to use procdump to create a dump file of the game that I can use with WinDbg but Im having trouble.

I would first start by updating your version of Win 10 as it is now version 2004 - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4028685/windows-10-get-the-update

Run the tests in this article to see if your machine can run the game - https://www.pcgamebenchmark.com/dracula-3-the-path-of-the-dragon-system-requirements

If that passes then see if the game will run in Safe Mode with Networking - it could be something in your Start -up menu or your antivirus program that is blocking/conflicting.

In that mode all 3rd party programs are isolated.

Let me know the results.

I updated to 2004 and am getting a memory access violation now Exception code: 0xc0000005.  I tried to see if the game can run on this laptop but the game is not detected.

Ill try safe mode with networking and see if that helps.

I assume you aren't getting that error when trying other programs.

As you are getting that error when trying Dracula 3 in Safe Mode with Networking would point to the program as being the cause, so try uninstalling, reboot and reinstall that game to see if that resolves.

The fact that the test doesn't detect it could be the clue.

If that doesn't resolve, there are a couple of steps in this article starting with adding to the Data Execution Prevention exceptions list.

https://ugetfix.com/ask/how-to-fix-exception-access-violation-error-on-windows-10/

Disregard downloading any tune up programs as recommended in the article.

When I run the game under windows 7 and windows xp compatibility mode it crashes with Exception code: 0xc0000409 which is a stack buffer overflow.  Ill try to uninstall and see if that does anything.

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling yet - that error could have corrupted the program.

This article has some suggestions in how to fix that error, but perform the dism cmds before the sfc /scannnow.

I have tried uninstalling and installing and back to Exception code: 0xc0000409.  Last time I tried to disable data execution prevention I just got a different kind of error.  I might not be able to get this game to work.  This is the only program having a problem no other program is experiencing issues.  I dont get it.  I have my game thief gold it runs and its older.  I wonder if there is anything I can do to make this game run?

I came across this article which has some suggestions and while they didn't work for the poster, they may do so for you -

https://adventuregamers.com/forums/viewthread/7267

The fact that you get the same error when trying the program in Safe Mode with Networking would suggest that it isn't Win 10 but the program itself.

I don't have any other suggestions for this.
