I bought/installed a Brother all-in-one  1 or 2 months ago that is compatible with Win 7. Everything has been working fine (both wi-fi and cable connection).

This past week, I went into Devices and Printers to click on the PC icon at the top left and I was shocked to have the Brother Scan window open instead! I have been trying to find answers and I chose to run Tweaking Repair Tool to no avail.

It would seem when I did the hard boot and went into Safe Mode to run Tweaking repair tool, this problem does not exist when I open Devices and Printers - seems to be just my user account. This is s true pain because I have spent a LOT of hours to get old programs installed, including problematic programs like Adobe Master Collection, and getting this machine set up to do some stuff I can't do on Windows 10. So, now that I am almost done doing everything I find this problem!

I should add, I ran the Repair Tool, system tweaks, even resetting the printer spool (I think it was called) and it diid not fix it.

Anyone know what is going on here? I am concerned if I uninstall all the printer software, will it actually fix the problem, or will it still be a hidden issue that messed up the system somehow? I am truly confused - never seen a problem like this on anybody's computer.

The printer probably isn't loaded in that mode.

Have you tried right clicking on the PC icon and select Troubleshoot to see if it reports anything untoward.

When an external device becomes troublesome then uninstalling/reinstalling can be the best option.

The same applies to installed programs.

When I double click on my PC icon I just get a small pane with General and Hardware tabs.

I use an Epson All in One printer and its scanner is a desktop icon.

I have scanned, faxed, printed and copied when I installed the Brother and everything works, both wireless and wired.

When I bought the laptop there was a missing driver, I believe for the card reader, and you can no longer get this Ricoh driver. But, I have an external card reader so that was never a problem. So, when I right-click troubleshoot it tries to find that missing driver, which it will not find since it's discontinued. I told it to look for other changes and it claims everything is fine.

I will go ahead and uninstall/reinstall the Brother software and see if that fixes it-I am just concerned something else has changed and I won't know it. LOL Never heard of this problem before and it definitely surprised me.
