The software hangs !
« on: May 14, 2020, 03:28:57 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to work as an assistant here. We have a problem. I would be very happy if you help. The software does not enter safe mode and hangs. When we run in safe mode; again after a while 10% hangs.

https://forum.donanimhaber.com//mesaj/yonlen/143448122

I ran SFC.exe. Was successful.
I ran the following commands with the Farbar recovery scan Tool.

https://forum.donanimhaber.com//mesaj/yonlen/143448122

cmd: sfc /scannow
cmd: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
CMD: ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /F

Checkhd.txt
https://filebin.net/8u3wsql9l1lgi66v

We get the error below;

WARNING!  F parameter not specified. Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.
Errors found.  CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.

-----------

CMD: ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R

We get the error below, when I enter this command.

https://filebin.net/ijoyrxmdl61ytpdr/Ekran_Al_nt_s_.PNG?t=n8sil12w

Could you have a suggestion for a solution. Thank you very much.

It's usually because the chkdsk has found a problem when it reports it cannot continue in read-only mode.

chkdsk implies c: so there's no need to use it in the cmd.

I would suggest that you create a system image then enter the cmd as chkdsk /r

This will take longer than just the file check as it will check for bad sectors on the HDD.

If it reports any KBs in bad sectors, then you will need to replace it then use the system image to restore with.

If you use Windows own Create a system image, then you will need a disk to boot you into the advanced boot options to select restore using a system image.

I assume you are using Win 10 ?

If so then you can create Win 10 install media after reading - https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

You can change the boot order by tapping F12 as you switch on then use the cursor keys to select the media you are using.

Insert the install media and press enter.

I've found that when using an USB that it is best to insert that first before switching on.

If using a DVD you will be momentarily prompted to press any key to boot from CD/DVD.

Use the dropdown to change or confirm the time and currency then navigate to the Install screen.

Click on Repair your computer - Troubleshoot - Advanced options and select the image restore option

To read the chkdsk log, go Start - type eventvwr and press enter when it comes up.

Ensure that Event Viewer (Local) is highlighted in the left pane - if it isn't, just click on it.

When it has read the data, expand Windows logs - click on Application/Action/Find and type chkdsk into the Find box and press enter.

Cancel the Find box and read the log in the scrollable pane below.

Other than what else it reports, you are looking to see if it reports any KBs in bad sectors.

Sorry. Currently, normal and safe mode cannot be opened on the computer.

Command prompt can be opened
I will run the Farbar software from the command prompt.
I'll get the farbar logs first.

Then I think chkdsk / r with Farbar recovery scan tool.

Best regards

Given the amount of corruption the read-only chkdsk found, I think you should run the chkdsk /r first.

With that amount of corruption, your HDD could be failing.

Have you created a system image yet ?

Do that first before performing a chkdsk /r

This is how to create the Win 8.1 install media - https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-uk/sln299314/how-to-create-windows-installation-media-for-windows-8-1-and-windows-10-using-the-media-creation-tool?lang=en

We were unable to run Tweaking Windows Repair Tool. The software did not go into safe mode.We tried running it in safe mode and again it failed. The system does not boot in safe mode now.We can only work at the Command prompt.

We received a farbar log from the command prompt. Listed some corrupt files. We found the files, but we couldn't copy them because they are zero bytes. We had the Tweaking Windows Repair Tool backup file. We want to backup from this file. I first asked the user to create Win 8.1 install media.

Which should be our operation priority? 8.1 upload media or  tweaking.com-regbackup file?

Even if the regbackup file works, I think only safe mode can be turned on.

Best regards.

Hi Boggin,

We used to work with repair media on Flash drive. We can enter normal and safe mode.
Disk problems continue.

Thank you again for your help.

Regards.

What does the chkdsk /r report ?

If that is reporting KBs in bad sectors then you will need to arrange for the guy to get a new HDD before that one fails.

Have you created the system image yet ?

As you can get the cmd prompt you could run these cmds to see if they will repair the file corruption, but not if the corruption is on bad sectors.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Enter exit to close the cmd window.

The dism cmd could report that it has repaired some corruption or that it completed successfully.

The sfc /scannow can report that it has found and repaired all corruption or that it found no integrity violations.

You can run a read-only chkdsk or the Farbar tool again to check if any corruption remains, but it is imperative that you perform a chkdsk /r as soon as possible.

Hi Boggin,

My apologies for the delay.

We opened the system with Windows 8.1 repair media. The user said everything is fine. However, he has not returned until now.
So I'm late. Sorry.

If he returns, I will consider your suggestions.

Thank you so much. Best regards.

Not sure what Win 8.1 repair media is but if you have created Win 8.1 install media then you can perform those cmds when you boot up with it.

Navigate to the install screen and select Repair your computer - Troubleshoot/Advanced options and select Command Prompt.

You can perform either a chkds /f or /r from there but first you would need to enter this cmd -

bcdedit |find "osdevice"

and using that partition letter instead of the x I have exampled, enter chkdsk x:  /f or /r

The report will stay on the screen.

For clarity, that is a Pipe symbol before find and is the uppercase of \

For the dism cmd, it's a little different - again using your partition letter instead of the x I have exampled -

I may not need to tell you this but note the space before each / in the following cmds.

dism /image:x:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth

The sfc scannow is also different and again using your partition letter instead of the X I have exampled, enter -

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=X:\ /offwindir=X:\Windows

Hopefully you can bring this job to a conclusion when he returns, providing the chkdsk doesn't report any KBs in bad sectors.

Have you created a system image yet ?
