Restore Point on Windows Repair

I cannot understand after all of these years, why the Restore Point does not work on Windows Repair. There may be a thread somewhere on your site, but I cannot find it. It would be soooo nice it it did.

That's my main beef with the program also. I had tried many times (Windows 7) to create a restore point with WR without success but now only ever use Windows GUI to do so. Registry Backup and Restore always  seems to work as intended.

I've found the same although it once created one on my Win 7 machine.

I've mentioned this to Shane but not sure if he's been able to replicate it.

I always create a system image before test running any new version because of changes it makes to the Win 10 apps so I am then able to restore from.

Another new member who has used the program is also in trouble because he thought the program had created a restore point.

- The problem is NOT located in WR but in Windows itself. So, don't blame WR but blame Windows 7, 8 (??) and 10 (??) instead.
- Windows will make such a System Restore Point (SRP) every say 2, 3 or 4 weeks even when nothing important has changed. It's called something like "Planned Restore Point". Only when major things have been changed (such as a new (Windows) update or a new program installed) or any of the mysterious, unknown conditions have been met then Windows will make such SRP.
- So, when the user wants let WR make a SRP then it will be Windows who decides whether or not such a SRP will be made and when.

But I don't trust this information. I think the interval between creating 2 SRPs is much larger (than 7 days for Windows 7).

I haven't attempted to use the Create a Restore Point in WRAIO for some time because I don't trust it but I do remember that, when I did, the process took an impossibly short time to complete and the Restore Point created didn't work. Using Windows 7 to create the Restore Point would produce one that did work. I recollect that the size of the Restore Point created by WRAIO was considerably smaller than that created by Windows, reinforcing my belief that the problem lies with WRAIO.

- No, the decision on how much to put in the SRP is made by Windows.

Well, if that's the case, I'll have to do some more tests to see exactly what's going on with my system when I've got time. But, like Boggin and others, I don't rely on Restore Points - I always back up my hard drive before carrying out any critical changes.

Regardless of what Windows does you can create a manual restore point at any time, although I don't know if this is how WR creates it.

I just know that it has never created a restore point on my Win 10 and only once on my Win 7.

On this Win 10 machine Windows hasn't created a restore point after the 16th of this month and the only restore point showing is a Manual one I made on that date.

Windows is supposed to create a restore point usually every 7 days but only when your machine is in a quiescent state.

- Perhaps System Restore has some "secret options" that can be used to push Windows into making a (large) SRP. I tried to GOOGLE it but to no avail
