I've just test run 4.4.9 on a Win 7 machine I have and the program opened fine.
I used it to boot into Safe Mode with Networking and run the repairs.
The only problem I had after the reboot was that the desktop icons were initially unresponsive but are now working fine.
I think it was last year when my Norton Security went through phase when it was kicking out Windows Repair and I had to contact Norton who white listed
www.tweaking.com for it not to kick it out.
A few months later, I removed it from the white list and found Norton no longer had problems with it.
This was probably due to the Security Definitions moving on.
In Safe Mode with Networking, all 3rd party programs are isolated from auto running and this is a tried and tested method to find if a problem is because of what is installed on a computer that could be the cause of a problem.
Which antivirus program are you using and is the repair program the only program that won't open from the desktop icon ?
