Can you go Start - type cmd then right click on cmd and select Run as administrator then enter sfc /scannow to see if that reports anything other than no violations found.

If that comes back clean then boot up into the advanced boot options, usually by tapping F8 as you switch on and use the cursor keys to select Safe Mode with Networking and press enter.

Reinstall the program then see if it will open in that mode.

Let me know if the sfc /scannow reports anything other than no violations found.

I've just test run 4.4.9 on a Win 7 machine I have and the program opened fine.

I used it to boot into Safe Mode with Networking and run the repairs.

The only problem I had after the reboot was that the desktop icons were initially unresponsive but are now working fine.

I think it was last year when my Norton Security went through phase when it was kicking out Windows Repair and I had to contact Norton who white listed www.tweaking.com for it not to kick it out.

A few months later, I removed it from the white list and found Norton no longer had problems with it.

This was probably due to the Security Definitions moving on.

In Safe Mode with Networking, all 3rd party programs are isolated from auto running and this is a tried and tested method to find if a problem is because of what is installed on a computer that could be the cause of a problem.

Which antivirus program are you using and is the repair program the only program that won't open from the desktop icon ?

That's bad news about the sfc /scannow.

Can you boot into the advanced boot options and select Repair your computer and press enter.

Navigate to the Recovery Environment to select Command Prompt and enter chkdsk /r and let me know what that reports.

Primarily you are looking to see if it reports any KBs in bad sectors.

Have you run the chkdsk /r yet as described ?

If that comes back clean then download the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT).

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=20858

Change the language if required.

This can resolve a number of problems and then try the sfc /scannow again after.

It is about a 500MB download so could take some time for that before it runs.

I used to save the download to my Downloads folder and run the .exe from there.

Apologies - I hadn't given you the full instructions on how to perform a chkdsk in that mode.

You need to enter at the prompt bcdedit |find "osdevice" which will give you a partition letter.

You then enter the cmd as chkdsk x: /r using your partition letter instead of the x I have exampled.

For clarity, that is a Pipe symbol before find and is the uppercase of \

Hope this hasn't caused you too much trouble.
