No Boot after Repairs
« on: July 13, 2018, 03:25:15 pm »
Win10 Pro
10.0.17134 Build 17134
Version 1803
Tweaking.com Windows Repair 2018 (v4.0.16) Free

After running repairs in Safe Mode the machine boots to a black screen. I can move and see the mouse and that is all. This has happened several times. I was able to trail and error it down to Restore Important Windows Serviced, but was only able to attempt this on one machine.  Below is a list of all the Repairs that are selected all at once and then executed.
Reset Registry
Reset Service Permissions
Register System Files
Repair WMI
Remove Policies Set By Infections
Repair Windows Updates
Repair Volume Shadow Copy Service
Repair MSI (Windows Installer)
Restore Important Windows Services
Set Windows Services To Default Startup
Restore Windows 8/10 Component Store
Restore Windows 8/10 COM+ Unmarshalers

Can you see if tapping SHIFT as you switch on will get you to the advanced boot options to use the System Restore option - hopefully you will have a restore point you can use.

Win 10 has moved on since WR v 4.0.16 so it could have been a permissions problem that is stopping you from booting up.

The current version is 4.0.23 which takes into consideration the changes in Win 10 as it is updated.

Thank you for the response. Since this has happened several times I have been cloning the HDD before Tweaking. But since Tweaking is part of our standard cleanup procedure ive been cloning before running Tweaking. Your response does make it sound like regardless of what numbers i choose this would happen due to Win 10 permissions. I will update our Tweaking version

It's good that you have something to fall back on - I usually create a Macrium system image before trying the program out.

What was the reason you ran the repair program ?

JFI - I'd read that someone had managed to get into the advanced boot options by tapping SHIFT as he switched on but having just tried it and found it didn't work for me, so probably wouldn't for you either.

The alternative would be to boot up with Win 10 install media and navigate to the Install window and select Repair your computer which would get you to the advanced boot options to select System Restore.

It's always handy to have a Win 10 install disk or USB which you can create after reading the instructions at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Okay - I assume you are using the Pro version as you are using it commercially ?
