Stuck on Repair MDAC/MS Jet for 8 hours

Windows 10 1803, ran chkdsk and sfc, HDD checked fine.

running in safe mode.

stuck 8 hours on Repair MDAC/MS Jet ... Registering 132 files.

reason for running is a problem with Office 2003 - I did an Office repair.

is it okay to abort?

This has been reported before and it could be related to Office.

Is there still movement in the CPU usage ?

If the CPU isn't showing any fluctuation then you can stop it, but you could stop it anyway.

Did the Office repair work as Office 2003 has produced anomalous problems for some in Win 10 as it isn't compatible and no longer supported.

Subsequent Window updates could screw it at any time.

there was 1-3% mostly. I aborted and now running Eset online scan. PC was infected with some sort of bitcoin trojan at least.

Office 2003 repair did finish.

I uninstalled Office 2003. I wish there was a way to buy Office 2007 or 2010?

A Google for where can I buy office 2007 or office 2010 from your location will produce a number of links.

I did that from my UK location and a number of sites came up but I wouldn't know if any were trustworthy.

MS just seem to be supplying Office 365 and 2016 - I don't know if 2016 is also on an annual lease as 365 is.

I'm still using MS Works that came preinstalled for the odd time I need to write a letter or produce some lined sheets.

EDITED because I had the wrong Office version for the Google search.

yeah, buying office on ebay is tricky. we will see. maybe just go Office 2016.

I may have to do an in-place Win10 install over, see what happens after the long eset scan.

They weren't all ebay outlets that I saw, but you still don't know who to trust.

When I feel things aren't right with my Win 10 I usually do a repair install.

The MCT has the latest version if you don't have an up to date install disk/USB. - https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

yes, the in-place repair install is the way to go. on this PC it fails while creating the USB media for some reason.

trying to make an ISO now.

I suppose I could just mount the ISO and install from there?

Have you checked Event Viewer to see if anything has been recorded for that ?

I think my brother found that a 4GB USB wasn't big enough for 1803 - not sure if it is compressed for the disk creation.

I've stuck my 1803 on a spare 16GB USB - a waste I know, but it was the only one available when I found my CD/DVD drive had given up the ghost.

The repair install is system file related and not program file related.

It could be just down to compatibility issues that you have the same problem.

To determine if it is Office that is holding up the MDAC/MS Jet repair, create a system image onto external media, uninstall Office and then run the Windows Repair program again to see if it still hangs on that repair.

What problems were you having with Office and did its repair resolve those ?

If it's working okay and nothing else seems to be wrong with the machine, then you could just ignore running the WR program and get back on with life.

Office will not save a file, it just closes. I have uninstalled and the repair still hung.

Way too much time to spend in an old copy of office like this!

I just wanted to fix it.

For now libreoffice works.

Have you removed all aspects of Office as you sometimes get Word Viewers with them.

As far as I know yes I removed the whole officesuite and there were no viewers. I'll give it one more shot today why not.

I have the exact same problem. The log file said to post in forums for support. I can upload the log file or anything else that is required. This has been happening for a few months.
Please advise

You should really open your own thread but Noddy in an other hijacked thread also has experienced this problem.

Which version of the program are you using as the home page is giving the wrong version ?

He is using 4.0.22

The latest version is 4.0.23 which can be downloaded from https://filehippo.com/download_tweaking-com-windows-repair/

If you aren't using this latest version, download it and see if you get the same problem with the MDAC/MSJet repair.
