I'll wait to see what else you have to report.

That update error code 0x8024200d - you've already done the standard fixes for that - perhaps the chkdsk has done some good.

That CAPI2 error, does that have an Event ID of 513 in Event Viewer ?

If it has, then open a Command Prompt (Admin) and copy & paste the whole of the command in this article to the cmd prompt and press enter, as that error can affect restore points.

So no answer as to why the 1607 clean install failed.

When you said the machine was updating, did you just mean that chkdsk had started progressing ?

Have you tried another manual check for updates to see what happens ?

That cmd looks to have completed successfully, so you shouldn't see any more CAPI2 errors, unless subsequent updates puts it on.

I think everyone got that error as well as the DCOM 10016 and DCOM 10010 errors after upgrading to Win 10.

The Event Viewer had recorded update failure with an error code of 0x8024200d but from a Google on that, you've done the suggested fixes for it.

Can you check Event Viewer to see if it's giving the same error code of 0x8024200d.

I'll ask my Support to see if they can come up with anything.

I'm shooting off shortly for my evening meal but will be back later.

Can you run the Windows Update troubleshooter to see what that reports.

You'll find Troubleshoot in Update & Security/Windows Update.

Service setting is missing or has beeen damaged
possible damage of windows update database
windows update components need repair

after that i ran windows update assistent, but i got message, that installation had failed - no reason why

Any error code that ends 05 is usually a type of Access Denied and very difficult to resolve.

As for possible damage to the update database etc. you've already run file system scans with the dism and sfc /scannow cmds which came back clean.

Can you go Start - type services.msc and press enter then scroll down to Windows Update, click on it then on Start in the left pane and then try a manual update.

Either that or with the install disk.

I've been having another Google for that error code - most tell you to do what you have already done but one suggested going to Update & Security and clicking Activation to activate Windows and then try updating.

If that doesn't work then you may have to do a Reset - the one that keeps your personal stuff but removes all 3rd party programs.

A repair install would have avoided that but as that won't complete, there's not a lot left that you can try.

I assume that you have sufficient free space left on your HDD and that the clock is showing the correct date and time ?

PC was already activated, you can´t do it twice

Clock and date are precise , enough space on hdd

Okay - I think you are going to have to go for a reset.

You've done everything that should have fixed the update problem and with those commands to reset the update components and that a repair install will not complete.

First I tried to do a reset, but it was´nt possible.
I then created latest Win 10 install media on USB stick and started the procedure
When restart took place, I got message, that layout of GPT was not optimal, cancel or proceed?
I then manually had to point out the partition to put W 10 on.
This happened every time a restart took place.

So finally latest W 10 was installed, and I had to reinstall my apps.

I think, that this "bad layout" of GPT caused the problem regarding failing to update W 10 to 1709.

So now is the question: how to fix bad layout of gpt?

Again thank you very much for the time and effort, you have spend trying to help me.

Probably best to do another clean install of Win 10 and follow these steps to resolve the partition order.

Win 10 tends to make its own so shouldn't do if I read the article right but you could create a system image first.
