chkdisk forced error then advised to remove win repair V4.

After I was advised to uninstall windows repair the system tray icon still remains and causes shut down issues with my pc.
I'm trying to reinstall but as soon as it asks about adding the short cuts for users the whole system locks up and I've to force a reset.
I've tried in both safe-modes and get the same result, any ideas as I'm beginning to think its time to format and start again.
running win 7 on amd dual core a series Athlon 8gb ram, ssd hdd.
I'm a novice so real in depth repairs may be beyond my skills

It's unusual to get an install problem in Safe Mode.

Can you explain your thread title about chkdsk ?

Ok - checkdisk cant advise you to uninstall anything - so that must be something else?

Also, the tray icon cannot load if the program is uninstalled - so I suspect something else again.

To unload the tray icon click settings then uncheck the launch tray icon at program startup.

Then I would highly suggest doing some decent viral scans.

Chkdisk carried out a scan when I intended to install win10 but it screwed up one of my HDDs so I reverted back to win7, I then downloaded winrepair in the hope of sorting the issues.
I've KASPERSKY Total security installed and it advised me to remove winrepair v4 which I tried to do using add/remove programs but it wasn't removed fully, hence the tray icon.
So now I'm trying to reinstall winrepair to have a go at repairing/resetting win7.
Also use malwarebytes and spybot to check my system.

I have Norton Security and it went through a phase where it objected to Windows Repair - it's a false positive,

The workaround was to whitelist www.tweaking.com for a while until the Definitions moved on.

However, as Kaspersky should have been isolated in Safe Mode, I'm not sure why you were still unable to install.

Are/were you able to install any other programs ?

Windows Repair has its own uninstaller which would have fully removed it.

In Win 7 you access it via Start - All Programs then scroll down to Tweaking.com and expand it then click on the Uninstaller.

Since getting back to Win 7, can you run a chkdsk /f and note if it reports any KBs in bad sectors.

If it does, then run a chkdsk /r and create a full system image onto external media.

When done, run a sfc /scannow to see what that reports.

I've followed the white list instruction so will try in a bit.
I'd done the scannow yesterday and it didn't see any issues.

I was wondering what you meant by it screwing your HDD - was that chkdsk or Win 10 ?

I'd run the chkdsk to see the status of your HDD.

chkdsk ran prior to win10 install damaged my HDD then I reverted back to win7.
Just had a blue screen STOP:0x000001A after spotting an unknown file labelled avg in russian looking lettering.?

It's still not clear from your reply if chkdsk or Win 10 damaged your HDD - neither of which I've heard of before.

The only AVG that I know is an antivirus program which could be conflicting with Kaspersky - have you ever had AVG installed ?
