new version crashed windows 8
« on: December 04, 2017, 01:53:42 pm »
I just ran the latest version of program. When laptop restarted, it went to startup repair! Is there a workaround, without reinstalling the OS? System Restore is cleared by this program, so that isn't an option

Can you boot up with an install disk/usb to navigate to the advanced boot options to select Safe Mode with Networking where you will be able to open the repair program and use the registry restore option ?

I don't know why it has caused this problem with your Win 8 machine.

I've ran it on Win 10 without incident.

I've seen that happen before with driver issues and once with a boot sector virus - I'll assume it isn't that.

I found a really good article here that can help.

I tried safe mode...same scenario. Fails to start. It def wasn't a virus, I was only trying to fix windows updates!

While jpm's link is for Win 7, you should be able to apply those steps in Win 8.0

Have you tried them yet ?
