I was wanting to know what exactly happened when you tried to install Windows Repair.

Can you try the install in Safe Mode with Networking ?

Can you go into Event Viewer to see if you are getting any Side by Side errors or anything else with a time stamp for when you tried to update ?

If you come across any, you can post them clicking on them then on Copy/Copy details as text in the lower right pane - right click in the reply box and select Paste.

It's difficult to know what it's conflicting with because in Safe Mode all 3rd party programs are isolated from loading.
