Hello Community,
I've expereinced some issues with win7 and I would like to have everything checked in general.

I heard lots of good reviews about the tool, but my concern is:

Question:
Will it set everything back to default? ...

I have lots of customizations, as e.g.
 - the look of my desktop/ two monitors,
 - Groups and Libraries taken out of explorer pane (only "Computer"), 
 - moved  certain folders e.g. "My Documents") from "C" to "F",
 - custom scripts e.g. 'run: clean event viewer',
 - custom event views,
 - page file settings and others specifically for SSD, etc, etc. (stuff I might not all remember to re-set

Do I have to re-set all of this?
Does it "repair" ... or better "re-set" personal customizations as well?

Again - I'd like to use the tool but don't want to end up with 'as new' factory settings ...

I hope this is a legitimate question and thanks for your answers in advance

- Are you using a Server version of Win 7 (e.g. Server 2008) ?
- Can you give some clues of what's wrong with your Win 7 system ?

- No, it won't reset everything to the default settings. But some users have applied so much (registry) tweaks or such weird tweaks that I can't give a 100% guarantee all will work out fine. Sometimes even running this program on a "normal" Win 7 system gives some problems.
- But that's why you SHOULD make a backup of the registry FIRST with the Registry Backup tool (comes with WR). Because some 90 to 95% of the things that are "repaired"/reset involves changes in the registry. And the entire registry is a LARGE "file" where A LOT OF things can go wrong.
- The WR PRO version allows you to automatically run your custom scripts (think: MSDOS commands/scripts, *.reg files and *.vbs (???) scripts) after WR has done its job.
- If you have different favourite settings for the Services then those can be customized as well (see the info for repair #27).
- But in your case I would play it safe and don't tick too many boxes at the same time. Then you can pinpoint where WR possibly went "off the rails".
- Keep us posted. Perhaps you'll come across some things that need to be incorporated in a next version of WR.

Not sure about server version - all I know is Win7-Serv Pack1 - always updated

My big problem is: tons of Errors in Event Viewer: Schannel - 36887 - Fatal Error: 40
It started only a couple of weeks ago - come always in pairs, 2 every 15 minutes or so ... the longer I work the more are there. - I clean event viewer everytime when shutting down.
Some say its an IE problem, TSL, Handshake ..no idea what that means, but someone mentioned deleting 4 registry keys in Cryptography\Configuration\Local\SSL\00010002 and two other, closeby by places....not sure if I should do that

Have to let you know that I ALWAYS make a system image (Macrium/Reflect)and/or Reg. backup when doing something uncertain

Otherwise I'm happy with win7 and have a clean, efficient running system (Perf. Score 7.7) ...just want to solve Schannel problem and
if Windows repair is not changing too much of my personal set-up ... use it and fix other, unknown things ...maybe I'm a bit of a clean freak..?

Question: if I use WR tool and something goes majorly wrong, will a system image restore revert everything to previous stage?

- An image is A very way to restore to a previous state. Might lose some info/data though.
- GOOGLE provided this info. It seems (!!!) to be related to a protocol for one or more websites

In response to your lnk: I've read this one too, but ... beyond my "geek-level" ... no idea what they are talking about ... and no real solution ... step by step.

Do the following:
- Install Tweaking's Registry Backup.
- Make a backup of the Registry with that program because we're going to make a small change to the registry. This same program allows you to restore the registry to a previous state if something goes wrong in the procedure below.
- Then take the file in the attachment, change the extension from .txt to .reg and place it a folder of your choice.
- Execute this *.reg file (by double clicking on the file). Windows will ask for confirmation. Reply with "Yes".
- Re-boot. If all is well then that error won't show up any more.

- Keep us posted.

But could you please tell me what it is that going to be changed?
Is it the actual solution or just blocking off that specific error message?

- Do you have (like me) experience using a registry editor (like REGEDIT) ??

- Don't know what this tweak would do. This is REAL "Nerd stuff" for the REAL Computer Geek. And WAY above my paygrade.
- But I would give it a try. You now know how to revert that change much more easily. I.e. using Registry Backup as described above.
- On top of this, I am pretty sure using Windows Repair wouldn't fix this problem.

To all the above:
I applied the tool and it worked just fine!
It did NOT change or reverse any of my custom settings.
It re-set some of the services and I quickly had that fixed
Computer is fater than ever with 26 sec. boot time.
Performance Score: 7.7
The tool also (no idea though how and what the problem was) fixed an reoccuring error (Schannel 36887) in event viewer ... gone
