Normally windows firewall settings need no modification, as modification would result in some thing wanted things get blocked.
Sheilds up is the site , where you could check all the security related problems. It is free. Go there check common ports test , upnp test and sharing text etc. It is free and any vulnerability would be shown . You could review. I would advise not to use any third party firewalls, which would slow your computer performance.
There is a network tool in avast , you could check any seepage of information from this scan . It scans the pc as well as router.
As system has uac always popping you to allow, i do not think any change in firewall settings. Your log could not be deciphered easily by other than the program makers, who has done that program.
