how to repair the programs already installed in win xp sp3
« on: March 22, 2016, 04:15:26 am »
Hi, Windows 7 have trouble shooter and you could fix many things . Windows xp only has add and remove program. Would all the programs, if click uninstall would alert repair or uninstall , so that uninstall could be avoided.
For some programs, if there is no change, or repair is not available , how to repair those installation. There are programs which would have been installed at the time of buying , which would not be available for ready downloads. For ex. If you buy hp laptop, they give preinstalled programs of which would not be available even at their site. For example, a nero program preinstalled while it is bought, would not be available. But if repair action is available , it may be able to repair from the installed position at windows xp. I do not know much, but please tell me the cure.
Would all programs pop up change or uninstall menu, if you go to add and remove programs? Ofcourse, i had done minimum repairs on the system with windows repair tool.
Some programs do not run and popup error message like , unresponsive programs and windows have encountered some problem and need to close. Usually i have this in internet explorer. But few programs do pop up this kind of error message. What is the fix, could i repair those programs , without uninstalling
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

If the repair/ change option is n't available, then you may have to hunt down the old version of the program and reinstall it.

Try here http://www.oldversion.com/ and here http://www.oldapps.com/ both good for "Abandonware".

J, I use XP SP3, but I never use Internet Explorer, that is just too risky, even for me  A lot of sites simply won't work with IE8 anyway.

Where Pro programs are pre-installed, then the best option to restore them would be with a factory reset.

Factory reset would remove all the installed programs , is it?
I went deep in to the matter. I found, that it was a demo version of nero, installed  in his laptop and trial period had ended .
I tried nero free from softpedia  and downloaded. I could not uninstall the corrupted version. I have tried and succeeded in removing the trial version and installed free version and try to burn the image as well as other files. What i noted was, my burn was successful, but opening the cd rw, i found , shortcuts of the drives in the disc.
I right clicked the drive and click the remove temp files in the cd and it went away, but then also i could not see the file i burnt, be it file or image.
Samson, Would you please say, which is the optic part that i have to clean. i tried the cd cleaner, but it spins a lot but could damage instead of clean.
If you place in arrow, in the optic drive of the laptop on the top portion in a jpg file, i may be able to just clean with cotton to try remove the dust if any.

The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Sorry J, I have never cleaned out a DVD/ CD drive, just replaced them

Have you checked YouTube for any guides or tutorials on how best to attempt this?

I wouldn't go poking around in there as you could do more harm than good.

Use a CD/DVD cleaning disk.

Did you run the MS Fix it for cannot read/write CD/DVD drive ?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

I suppose it could be the codecs - see if K-Lite will do anything for you.
