(SOLVED) chkdsk stuck in read only mode
« on: February 18, 2016, 12:27:26 am »
Hi tweakers , i am a newby and have done a quick search but cannot find anyone with the same problem as me so here goes.....loving the program which has fixed probs i have had for months. Anyway, i ran the checker program which gave me the following advice.....
Usn Journal verification completed.
The master file table's (MFT) BITMAP attribute is incorrect.
The Volume Bitmap is incorrect.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these.
......however, no matter how i run it, using properties tab or command line prompt, when the system reboots it ALWAYS runs in read only mode so cannot fix anything.
Am running win 7 home premum 64bit.....any help would be greatly appreciated...cheers

Did you try the lower option in Windows Repair to run a chkdsk /f and did the read-only report any KBs in bad sectors ?

See if you can get it to run this way -

Boot up into the advanced boot options, usually by tapping F8 as you switch on and then select Repair your Computer.

Confirm/change the keyboard language/currency etc. and navigate to the Windows Recovery Environment (WRE) and select Command Prompt.

Enter bcdedit |find "osdevice" and using whichever partition letter, enter chkdsk x: /f where x is the partition letter.

That is a Pipe symbol before find and I usually explain that this is the upper case of \

Thanks a bunch Boggin and Makinero....but guess what....ran it a second time from the properties tab and it just decided to start working....computers eh....just like women.....who needs em ? only kidding about the women bit Makinero!!

Presumably the check that tweaking .com did in read only mode (as per the warning) through this up as a false positive ???
The master file table's (MFT) BITMAP attribute is incorrect.
The Volume Bitmap is incorrect.

Anyway, no probs or bad sectors found so thanks again....
