Registry backup and system restore fails
« on: January 04, 2016, 01:33:39 pm »
I am running on a win7 ultimate 64bit system, current on all updates.

While running your program Registry backup i get a "Last scheduled backup had errors or failed" backup location "c:\regbackup\arnold-pc\1.4.2016_1.13.24-pm\" . I was running this from windows and not safe mode(is that a problem).

i view the logs and a the bottom of the log i see the message:

Creating DOS restore bat file for use in the Windows Recovery Console:
[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] Already Exists: C:\Windows\tweaking.com-regbackup-ARNOLD-PC-Windows-7-Ultimate-(64-bit).dat for use in the dos_restore.cmd file
[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] Done: C:\RegBackup\ARNOLD-PC\1.4.2016_1.13.24-PM\dos_restore.cmd
[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

why is this failing and what do i do about it.

Please note that I can not find the file listed above "Already Exists: C:\Windows\tweaking.com-regbackup-ARNOLD-PC-Windows-7-Ultimate-(64-bit).dat for use in the dos_restore.cmd file" I can't find any c:\Windows\tweaking.com files.

However i do have c:\regbackup  folder with sub folders.

I ran a registry back-up this morning to get you the log info you requested. The backup ran to a good completion I used both "Win Repair" and the "stand alone tweaking backup" . I looked at past try's and found the error you are looking for it was:

[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] Backing Up File: C:\Users\Administrator\ntuser.dat
[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] Result: Failed - Error: -1 (API Reg Save Failed (), Tried File Copy, File In use, Cannot copy.)

[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] Backing Up File: C:\Users\Arnold\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat
[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] Result: Successful (3.64 MB) - C:\RegBackup\ARNOLD-PC\1.4.2016_1.13.24-PM\C\Users\Arnold\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat

[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] Backing Up File: C:\Users\Arnold\ntuser.dat
[1/4/2016 - 1:13:26 PM] Result: Successful (5.26 MB) - C:\RegBackup\ARNOLD-PC\1.4.2016_1.13.24-PM\C\Users\Arnold\ntuser.dat

I  was running the backups from my Win session and not fm "safe mode", also this same error was reported by the "Win Repair" and the "stand alone tweaking backup"

Ah I see. When the program uses the fallback method to backup it will try to copy the reg files from the other profiles, if they are loaded and in use though you get the error. In that case havign the program not use fallback and instead use VSS (Shadow Copy) it will be able to back them up, just VSS can be slow depending on the system is all, but if you are having trouble with fallback getting the backup then using VSS is the way to go :-)
