UPDATE ERROR MSG - INCOMPATIBLE VERSION
« on: December 29, 2015, 06:04:42 am »
I'm updating to 3.7.3. After downloading, and on "run" I get a message that the "software is incompatible with OS version - check to see if you need 32bit or 64bit" (paraphrased). It seems like I have seen that message during prior updates but I don't remember how I fixed it. I'm running Win-7 64bit.

Which browser are you using - I've seen where using Firefox - a 32 bit browser has downloaded a 32 bit version of a program instead of a 64 bit and while IE is default 32 bit, the correct download occurred.

I have WR 3.7.3 Pro but don't remember having to choose which version.

Perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling would resolve the error ?

Nope. Uninstalled and tried to install. No luck. Old version 2.5.1 will install just fine. Now when I try to download I get a Sonic Gateway alert and that's end of game. Tried logging in as administrator-still nothing. Puzzling.

Try downloading 3.7.3 in Safe Mode with Networking.

I use Norton Security and when downloading the free version on another Win 7 laptop, Norton gave it a clean bill of health.

As for the compatibility problem, while it downloads it to Program Files (x86) I don't know if it's architecture specific and the program downloads the correct version for the system - but I had no problem downloading and running on a 64 bit system.

Having Googled false positives by Sonic Gateway, there seem to be quite a few links of complaint.

I got it to download to my laptop at home last night. I copied it to a thumb drive and it has installed to the desktop with no issues. I still have no idea why it flagged as incompatible in the download attempt to the desktop.
Thanks much for your interest and input.

Has Event Viewer recorded anything for when you got the incompatible error ?

You got that error because the file didnt fully download for some reason. So when windows tried to run it, it didnt respond as a normal exe should and so you get that error.

I have seen that happen when firewall software or antivirus gets in the way and even infections. Sometimes it is something with the browser itself.

So when you downloaded it from another system, it downloaded all the way and is why it installed fine for you :-)
