Just the Windows startup and shutdown sounds don't work but all others do?

I found this

The No System Sounds problem can be easily fixed by installing the K-Lite Codec Pack!

Then what you need to do is go to Start > Programs > K-Lite Codec Pack > Configuration > Codec Tweak Tool and check the box next to [Registry] Fix non-working system sound.

There is no need to install K-lite Codec Pack to use Codec Tweak Tool.

Codec Tweak Tool is also available as standalone program here:
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/KLite-Codec-Tweak-Tool/1183386542/
Click "Download Now" to download it.

Double-click on CodecTweakTool_537.exe -> click on "Fixes" button -> check the box next to "Fix broken sound" -> Apply & close.

Dear Mr Shane and Neroilo,
Thank you so much for yours assistance.
I've d/loaded and runned both CodecTweakTool and K-Lite- Codec .
As result was to rework Windows Media Player that, months was off.
Keep in mind that at the CodecTweakingTool the sub_option ( Start > Programs > K-Lite Codec Pack > Configuration > Codec Tweak Tool and check the box next to [Registry] Fix non-working system sound.
does not exist.
Finally due to the reason that Win Xp sounds still remaing off , i believe that somewhere a have make a "fatal error", please do me the favor and stop dealing more , i can live excluding windows sounds :) .
Have a nice afternoon both of you
My best regards
Giannis
