Ok so after running WR 3.5.0 the start menu is working correctly again, is this correct?

When you ran the repairs in safe mode did you run them all?

What exactly is happening with the app store when you try to run it?

There is a new App Store repair command I am going to be adding in v3.5.1 of the Windows Repair, give this command a try and let me know if it does the job.

First go to the start menu and then app apps, scroll down to Windows Powershell, right click on powershell and run it as administrator. (It has to be ran as administrator for this to work)

Once it is open run this command

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml

Let me know how that goes.

Hi,
the problem started with not being able to left click on the start menu.  i ran your repairs and i could then get into start but most of the apps were missing and when i cliked on some like the windows store it didnt respond.  I ran the 3.5.0 update and it was just the same.  today however its gone back to not responding to the left click on the start menu.  a box comes up saying 'critical error - we'll try to fix it next time you sign in'.  i would do the thing that you have said in the previous post but i cant get into the start menu - well actually i can get into the right click menu but as far as i can see theres no powershell option on that one.
thanks

Then you will need to go to the folder location of powershell, right click on it and run as administrator :-)

Should be located at "C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0"

Well you had trouble, then it was fixed then the trouble came back.

To top it off, the errors you are getting are far from the normal errors people are getting with the app store and start menu. Which tells me you might have something worse going on.

So go to the system32 folder and find cmd.exe right click on it and hit run as admin. You might be able to right click on the start button, if that menu still works you can open it from there as well.

Once open put in

chkdsk c: /r

Hit enter it will say the drive is in use and would you like to schedule it for next boot, hit Y

Then restart and before windows boots up it should start the chkdsk. This will take a while, it is doing the 5 stage check which means it will look for bad sectors as well. Once it is done the log of it should be in the event viewer. (Even though this is for 7 is still holds for 8 and 10)
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96938-check-disk-chkdsk-read-event-viewer-log.html

Post the results of that chkdsk scan for me

Do you still have the same problem after running the chkdsk ?

If you are still having problems with the Start button then press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and under the Processes tab click on Windows Explorer and then on the Restart button.

I don't have Win 10 but there may be others that you could select to restart.

ok so now the menu seems to be working and the apps seem to be working too. however theres only a few live tiles on there but i guess thats just a question of them appearing over time as you use different apps.  however i still cant get into the store.  now when i click to go into the store a message box comes up saying: "you'll need a new app to open this ms windows store" but doesnt do anything when you click OK

While the following article primarily tries to deal with the Start Menu not working, there is a section on Reinstalling Windows apps which may get things going again for you.

However, your original problems may have been caused by one of August's updates which MS were supposed to have patched a couple of days later - from a Google link I came across, but as with other versions of Windows, patches can have knock on effects which just affect some users and with auto updates in Win 10, who knows what these will be and how would someone know their problems were tied to updates.

http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/has-your-windows-10-start-menu-stopped-working-here-are-four-ways-to-fix-it-11364000314532

I don't know how much WR duplicates the actions of the Dism commands in Win 10, but you could also try running those.

I made some improvements to the repair app store in Windows Repair 3.5.1

Can you try it and let me know if it helps? Make sure to run the 2nd app store repair, the total reset one. I had also found some bugs that where keeping the repairs from working properly in safe mode, so there should be a difference with the new version :-)

Sorry for the late reply, was on a insane programming session the last 3 weeks. Any update so far? And if still not fixed did you try WR 3.6.0?

actually its gone back to not working and bringing up the critical error box.  the only difference between earlier in the day and tonight is that at night i have flux running.  could it be a conflict?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is flux ?
