Corrupt windows files sfc scan
« on: August 25, 2015, 07:05:20 pm »
Hey guys,

I'm really hoping i can get some help as i'm pulling my hair out.

I have spent the last 3 days reinstalling and attempting to repair windows on my computer.
It first came to light when i upgraded my Video card drivers to the latest. My computer was fine up until this point.
I was playing Evolve and my computer just froze about 2 mins into the map.

I restarted and boom same thing again. I started scouring forums trying to find what would cause Evolve to crash. ( all my other games run fine no dramas.)
Then i started to get the "Windows desktop manager has stopped working" when playing evolve (while trying to see if it was something i was doing in game to cause the crash.)
Then i started to get kicked back to Windows because the "color scheme had changed to basic"

The more i looked online the less helpful it was (forums 2-3 years old etc)
Then i came across information on running "sfc /scannow"
I ran that and got the corrupt files error and they couldn't be repaired. Got more frustrated because it wouldn't tell me what the corrupt files were associated with etc.
More scouring forums and i come across  "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image" forums and start doing that.

Yep started telling me the same thing.

I get this

C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.10240.16384

Image Version: 10.0.10240.16384

The component store is repairable.                         <------ Tells me i can fix it then fails on the fix.
The operation completed successfully.

C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Now im being told that the is wrong etc ive gone deeper looking for the Error: 0x800f081f online.

Ive done all the 3.5 updates and instal procedures etc and it seems to be installed fine.

I checked the SFC logs and these are the issues that come up

So i research the opencl.dll as its the first time ive actually seen a file associated with the error.
Everything i could garner from that it is something to do with the video card drivers, instructions were to unistal and reinstal with older more stable drivers or update them.
I do that whole procedure run scan again. Still have the corrupt files.

I then found how to get the DISM file and see what the issue is.

These are the warnings that it displays.

DISM   DISM OS Provider: PID=4728 TID=4776 Unable to set the DLL search path to the servicing stack folder. C:\Windows may not point to a valid Windows folder. - CDISMOSServiceManager::Final_OnConnect

They seem to repeat after that.

Im at a complete loss now and have no idea where to go to fix this. I have done so many sfc scans and DSIM recovery/repair attempts my brain is bleeding out my ears.

I cannot play Evolve while this issue is present and am concerned it will "spread" to other areas of my pc.

Windows appears to be working for now no issues.

(forgot to add with a clean install of windows i dont have any corrupt files when running sfc /scannow only when i install any version of the nvidia drivers even back to the last set i had that were stable.)

Windows 10

I've read that it is better to use a DVD if possible when executing the Dism.. /LimitAccess cmd but there have been a lot of problems associated with Nvidia and Win 10.

Is this a game you play online, say through IE or is it loaded by other means ?

MS had provided a Windows Update that should have made your Nvidia card compatible with Win 10, but if you load the game through IE then see if going IE Tools cog - Internet options and checking the first box under the Advanced tab improves things.

That box is for Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering.

Just been having another look at that /LimitAccess cmd you had entered - have a look at this article for and how to use it with the ISO.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-update/system-file-check-sfc-scan-and-repair-system-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

You can right click on the ISO and select Mount http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3579-iso-img-file-mount-unmount-windows-10-a.html

Ive attempted to use an iso mounted and a disc when running

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:I:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess

And it does not even look at the disc and still gives

C:\Windows\system32>DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:I:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.10240.16384

Can you have another look at the syntax of the Dism /LimitAccess cmd in that article as it differs from what you are entering.

I've come across where someone else has had the same problem when running that command and don't have an answer for it.

It's possible there could be some problem with Evolve and Win 10 if other games play fine with the updated Nvidia driver and Win 10.

Have you checked Installed Updates to see if MS has downloaded a Nvidia compatibility driver/update ?

If you load Evolve in IE, try going Tools cog - Internet options and under the Advanced tab check the box for Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering to see if it performs any better.

It requires a reboot to effect.

I don't know what you mean by IE? Internet explorer? Its a steam game http://evolvegame.com/

The attachment is the updates i have installed and windows says it is up to date.

That could be a possibility.

Still baffles me that i cannot fix the issues using DISM or SFC? might just have to wait and see what happens with either manufacturer.

Yes, I did mean Internet Explorer.

I'm not into gaming but would assume you would be using some sort of browser to access the web site and if using IE, changing the rendering if there's a problem with the GPU/drivers is an option you can try before downloading the game, as it requires a reboot to effect.

Its a standalone game does not require IE or such to run. I may just have to wait and see if there is a fix..

It does seem to be the game itself if that is the only one affected and MS fixed any problems with Steam on an earlier Win 10 TP build.
