Repaired reparse problems return on next check
« on: August 11, 2015, 12:48:40 pm »
The repair to certain reparse points appear to be corrected but then return and the next time they are checked. The attachment to this thread shows the ones I'm talking about. What needs to be done to repair them permanently?

Ah I see what is happening here. I enabled the se_backup_privilege in the program, which allows it to have access to normally blocked folders.

So in that scan the program thinks that the folder isnt denied and so keeps coming up. I just need to update the scan to remove the se_backup_privilege before the scan and put it back after :-)

I will have it done in the next update, which will come out next week.

I wondered if it was an error with the newest update which I just installed! Thanks for confirming that. You do such a great job with updates that we don't see a problem with one though they are kind of unexpected.

It is just 2 lines of code to fix it. At form startup remove it, at form close add it back :-)

I need to add it to the pre-scan section as well. I am also tracing down a problem with the setacl crashing on certain machines, if I can find the cause and a fix I will put out an update even sooner :-)

I dont like bugs in my work, that means no sleep till it is fixed :-)

Which also means I pulled another all nighter getting this done. but I need it tested, do you want to test out this version for me before I release later today?

Awesome, make sure to backup the registry with it first in case anything goes wrong you can just restore the registry.

let me know your OS and the results when you are all done :-)

Current change log:
Code: [Select]
v3.4.2
Bug fix, setacl (Used to set permissions) would crash on certain machines. This has hopefully been fixe. I was able to replicate the crash under certain conditions and so was able to find the cause and fix it. Will wait and hear back from users if there are any conditions I missed.

Bug fix, you could only run the repairs once in safe mode, you would have to close the program and reopen it to run them again. This has now been fixed.

Bug fix, the pre-scan tool and Reparse Point Tool would incorrectly started some bad points. This has now been fixed.

Bug fix, while their default permissions where being applied there was a bug keeping the default inheritance being applied. This has now been fixed.

Greatly improved the permissions repairs, including making the files smaller and faster.

All default permissions for 7, 8 and 10 have all been updated after the windows updates where done for the patch Tuesday of this month (Aug. 2015)

Multiple code improvements.

Thank you! It worked, and I did a prescan, no issues found! So at least one of the two bugs I had are fixed. I am now running repairs.

Excellent :-)

I am also running all the repairs on Xp, vista, 7, 8 and 10 in vmware and once I am done and confirm everything looks good I will put out the new version :-)

Let me know how your end goes after the repairs.
