I just don't like Google as my default search engine, OK so you can block tracking with an add on like Ghostery or similar, but i prefer to vote with my feet and walk away. DuckDuckGo ( weird name, not really sure where that came from) is my preferred search engine. I know that it is Google's world, but we don't all have to live in it........Others will disagree I'm sure

Give it a shot, you won't go back to Bing.

Don't get me wrong, I don't sit around in a tinfoil hat. But I don't want to be tracked, lose my privacy and get my searches filtered. Why would a company have a corporate motto of "Don't Be Evil", should n't that be self-evident?

Hi, Take it in lighter vein.
Google is the best search engine. Privacy data is the lone problem in this. This is widely used search engine.
In this day of world in your pocket, google though , filtered data it is harmless. What it does. It would supply to some vendors thats all. What is that going to do. Nothing. Unless or otherwise, you share financial data, which is suspect under phising.
But other search engines, do not provide the search as easy as google. Why look in to the one part without realising the other benefits. Just type and you get all the things you want . Suffice to say that firefox, eventhough a separate browser, keeps the search engine google for it. If you have firefox, searching in google minimizes the risks by its secured filter.
With all the short comings of google, i use firefox browser with google search engine,default of firefox. It is the safest bet according to me. For some days, i do not find shane and boggin heroes

"some vendors" = convicted multinational corporations, and what about PRISM? Google supply data to the NSA, GCHQ etc. Do you trust all these organisations to not misuse your personal information and keep it safe? In the US, Federal Government recently got hacked by China, so you can bet your bottom dollar that they are/ have tried to hack all other large corporations, government departments and NGOs. So all your personal data could be on a huge database in China!

Google results are filtered based on your previous searches and surfing destinations, so as a result you do not "get all the things you want", you get all the things that Google thinks that you want.

For me I really do not care very much for the Google search engine I have not put anything for family or friends stuff in my computer or both,
Do not forget that the Google search engine is full of place to get the infection very quickly! If you are using the older version of the browsers then exposed to all kinds of security risks will be ....

I myself i hate Google search engine ! lol but i had to use it !

If you are using FF you can just select it from the search bar drop down menu, no need to install anything. Or bookmark the link and ue it from there.

I won't touch bing and google with a 10-foot pole! When on a computer, they are the first 2 things to go

I also use duckduckgo and https ixquick. I don't trust ixquick as much after they connected to google!

I use ipl2 for researching a lot. I've used dogpile a few times.

I am just getting sick and tired of search engines, in general and on shopping sites, losing their more specific results.

You put in pink flamingo and you could get muddy horses, dvds for sale or something! hahaha Back in the mid-90's, search optimization was soooo much better. I know they are doing it on purpose, but it really gets my goat.

Well the thread has had over 200 views, so I guess a few will at least have taken a look at alternatives to Google and maybe even have switched. It comes as a surprise to some folks that there are alternative search engines out there.

It is a kind of thing that even if you delete the history browsed thro the web pages in firefox, which use google as its search base, the history in google search engine are not deducted. You have to go to the chrome browser to delete those.
Why cannot firefox have a separate search engine, as it has more secured browsing experience.
Firefox users would outnumber chrome, because of its kind of self programming of searching personal wep information sites, etc.etc. Though firefox is safe compared to ie and chrome, now avast is sponsoring chrome,i think if it has its own search engine, then things would look. Am i correct. I do not have chrome, but firefox by having it forces google on you. HOW is it

Google is the default in firefox, but if you check in the seach bar drop down menu then you will find DuckDuckGo

Samson, Would you say more about duckduckgo.
Who is the owner of this site. What were your experience. Ofcourse, google is storing unwanted history of the sites thro its self program.
Would that not apply to all search engine. My concern is why firefox does not have its own search engine.
