Manual replacement help needed
« on: May 31, 2015, 08:09:52 am »
I have been unable to make some windows updates.  Error code is 800B0100. Windows is 7 - 64 bit.  I ran Tweaker and got the following message:

"These Files Are Possibly Corrupt (Bad Digital Signature): (Total: 3)
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_49_for_KB3046049~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.cat
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB3046049_SP1~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.cat
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_49_for_KB3046049~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.mum

Problems were found with the packages files, these files need to be replaced (These mainly only effect installing Windows Updates.)
The SFC (System File Checker) doesn't scan and replace some of these files, so you may need to replace them manually.
These files do not keep the repairs from working, you may still run the repairs in the program.

If you need help in replacing these files, post on the Forums at Tweaking.com for help."

Can someone assist me in replacing these manually?

Hi, I think that there is no need to worry as the system is functioning. Those are all digitally not signed drivers. Thats all. Sometimes we have to download drivers from manufacturing cos, which will provide signed and unsigned drivers. I think that you need not worry as long as amd drivers are working.
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Replacing missing or corrupt files files had nothing to do with that, they wouldnt cause other files to just start showing as corrupt as well when we never touched them, something else is going on with your system and that si what I am working with you to find out what

rockwelder, what are the updates that are failing?

That error means that a file that Windows updates needs itself is missing
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-error-800b0100#1TC=windows-7

The system readiness tool might be able to fix that.

after running system update readiness tool
Check %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log  to see if it wasn't able to auto-repair any issues if not try downloading the .msu.
link for you below
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46287
Create a directory at C:\Windows\CheckSur\packages  Copy the downloaded msu file there
Re-run System Update Readiness Tool

Just for a safety precaution run the windows repair tool go to the repair section let it back up the registry uncheck all repairs then check mark only the repair windows update
 reboot
 re-run windows update.
let me know if that works
EDIT:
this link is a more complex way of doing this.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee619779(WS.10).aspx

I attached the cat and mum files it says you were missing.

As Sundavor said, if you can post that log for me that would be great.

Can you tell me a little more about what happened when you tried it? Saying it doesn't work doesn't give me much to go on lol :cheesy:

Hmmm Shane I have a question....I think my previous post I May have given the wrong url. When running your pre-scan option in tab 2 of your repair tool and the missing or corrupt .mum and .cat files. are showed. Is that the equivalent to a sfc /scannow with the list of of corruption on the bottom of the CBS.log?

The reason I Ask is the steps I gave rockwelder should help him with his error when System readiness tool fails to fix. But what makes me assume that I gave the wrong url link to the .msu rockwelder needs is because I was basing his corruption off of  his original post of the pre-scan and not the CBS log.....
well if he can post his %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log It will show the proper msu he needs I believe..
then I can search

The SFC doesnt scan the packages files, thats why i made the pre-scan tool. But the system readiness tool does and more and will fix a lot of things BUT only if it has the files it needs.

This here will tell you how to get the files and put them in a folder for the system readiness tool to use.

Problem is, this isnt an easy task for a user.

Exact same problem I am having and read the "Advanced guidelines for diagnosing and fixing servicing corruption"

I feel like that a fresh install is going to be easier

Thats what I mean, for me I can do what the pages says to do easily, but for a normal user that is a heck of a challenge. I might make a tool to help with that down the road.

A repair install would be good to do before a fresh install, but you have to have the install disk in order to do it.
