I've been getting an error that corrupt files were found in couldn't be repaired while running SFC/scannow. I was going to use the Tweaking Windows repair tool and when I ran the pre-scan I got the following information:

Problems were found with the packages files, these files need to be replaced (These mainly only effect installing Windows Updates.)
The SFC (System File Checker) doesn't scan and replace some of these files, so you may need to replace them manually.
These files do not keep the repairs from working, you may still run the repairs in the program.

No problem here are the files.

So first thing to do is to download this zip file and run the reg file inside of it.
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/add_quottake_ownershipquot_to_right_click_menu_in_vista_amp_7,1.html

This will add a take ownership item to the right click menu in Windows.

Go to C:\Windows\servicing\ and then right click on Packages and click on take ownership.

Then grab the zip file I attached, extract the files and then move them to C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\

Thats it all done, if you run the pre scan again make sure to put a check on the box to have it add the cat files back tot he database

I completed all of that but when I rescan SFC I still get that message back saying that he found corrupt files that it cannot repair?

I didnt want you to run the sfc, I wanted you to run the pre-scan again after putting those files in the folder

I did run the prescan first came up with no errors found. I then proceeded to run the SFC scan to see if the original problem I had started working on had been corrected and it wasn't. That's the reason I sent the CBS log.

The only error I see was saying it couldnt find Microsoft-Windows-Client-Features-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7601.17514.mum which was from an older scan, the last scan shows that it did fix and replace a lot of files that will be done on the next reboot.

Reboot and then see how things go from there.

The same thing happened. The prescan reported no errors but the SFC scan report corrupt files that it couldn't repair.

KB3022345 is probably the cause of the system file errors.

One way to resolve this is to restore to before this month's Windows Updates, hide that one then reinstall the updates - although SFCFix.exe may resolve it for you as it did for Tone111 on the forum and even just uninstalling the KB could resolve as it did for someone in the lower InfoWorld.com article. http://thetechcookbook.com/automatic-sfc-corruption-repair-sfcfix-exe/

I'm not sure why KB3035583 was causing you problems unless it was a knock on effect from the problems KB3022345 is causing.

I restored to immediately before the updates and sfc still reported it was unable to fix some files and even an offboot sfc /scannow reported the same.

Going back about another week allowed sfc /scannow to find files it could repair, so not sure if I may have already had some corruption, but during this time a chkdsk /f reported no problems.

One thing I did notice when scanning for affected programs for the earlier restore point was that it mentioned a pre-package for KB3022345, but as this was a new update (Diagnostic Tracker Service) for Win 7, I didn't know what this was referring to.

I first tried to uninstall that update and it wouldn't uninstall so that I went ahead and restored to a point before it was installed. The restore completed successfully and that update wasn't there when I checked but I still have the same problem.

Is there any other problems besides the SFC saying it cant fix some files? Is everything working and all Windows updates installing ok?

I have some other random strange occurrences happening. For example, the pulldown menu where you select shutdown, restart, etc. doesn't work, I only have the one option that is displayed. I also have a couple of updates that will install correctly, I know that KB3035583 is one of them.

Try going back further as I had to then run sfc again.

I've spent almost 5hrs with MS 2nd Line tech support today because after this month's updates (Win 7 x64) were stopping the sound and he hid the following WUs, saying that some were for Windows Defender which I didn't need because I was using Norton 360 and didn't need WD, as well as the ones to facilitate ease of upgrading the OS which I didn't want.

These were -

3046002 -
3051768 - these three each were directly responsible for stopping the sound.
3055642 -
3061518
2952664 - this one failed to install.

The point I went back to previously it as far back as I can get to work. Trying to go back to one earlier than that fails.

Looks like the problem is in the winsxs folder, if that is the case then a repair install would be the best answer. Do you have the Windows setup disk by any chance?

Yes, I have the Windows setup discs. I'll try to get around to it tomorrow sometime.

Here is how to do a repair install, it is basically doing an upgrade to the same version

Looks like I'm back to square one with my sfc /scannow following the installation of the remaining WUs.

It's also now reporting files it cannot repair.

There's been more reported problems with WUs these last few months, you'd think MS would try harder to get it right.
