Still Not Fixed
« on: June 04, 2012, 07:17:33 pm »
I found your program online because of this issue: "windows update cannot currently check for updates because updates on this computer are controlled by your system administrator". Well, hell, I AM the system administrator!! It's my laptop and I'm the only one who uses it!! Sorry, anyways, you wanted to know if your program did not fix a problem, and it did not. Nice program, and I think it helped my laptop. I am running Windows 7, 64 bit.

That error sounds more like a system policy has been enabled that is causing the program. My repair doesnt mess with those since admins on networks some times set them.

Give this a try and let me know

Thank you, Shane.

I am sure that some setting somewhere is messed up. I tried what you suggested, but when is typed in gpedit.msc, Windows told me that it couldn't find it.

Check here
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\

look for policy and/or group policy.

What do you have?

Hello Shane,

Well, that might explain things. As you can see, there is no "Windows Update" key.

OK good, I don't have any there either and we don't want any.

So it looks like it isn't a policy that is doing it. So lets keep trying a few other things  :cheesy:

Give this one a try and let me know.

O.K., so this is typical of Microsoft and Windows, I guess. I ran the tests and the photos are included, then I restarted the computer. When I go to the Control Panel and click on Check for Updates, Windows tells me that I don't have Admin Privileges. But when I check if updates have been installed, the log shows that some updates have been installed recently. Weird, huh? So I don't know what the issue is!
Thank you so much for your continued help!!

There has got to be some policy in place that is blocking it.

I did find this
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-8024402C

Quote
If your computer is managed by WSUS, you will see You receive updates: Managed by your system administrator near the bottom of the page.

Have you had your system connected to any domains or other networks at all?

This is WSUS

My laptop has always been connected to my internet connection from home, usually wirelessly. It hardly ever leaves the house.

Lets cover all the bases, open the uninstall programs and have it show windows updates.

Check if you have Windows Server Update Services installed.

Very odd. Everything I look up on that error says it has to do with a policy. But you have none of those policies set!

I did find this
http://it.slashdot.org/story/12/06/05/1638228/flame-malware-hijacks-windows-update

This new malware hijacks the Windows update. But doesn't say anything about the error you get.

Here is something we can try. Create a new user account, just as a test. Then login with that new account and try Windows updates. Does it work?

If it does then it is something with your profile. If it still fails with a new account then it is something under the system as a whole.

 Wow. You da MAN!! Thank you, thank you!! I created a new profile, and Poof! Updates were installed. I will now restart the computer and see what happens.
So, when I restarted my laptop, it went straight to my profile. When I log off, then I can see the other profiles on this machine. Anywho, after my profile loaded up, the computer informed me that Windows was updated and happy. I still can't run updates on my profile, but it works on the new profile. "If it ain't broke. . ." My laptop is happy and right as rain.
Thank you so much, I will recommend your forum!!  :cheesy:

Glad that worked :-)

I wish we could have found out what was different in your profile so I could add it to the repair.

For now what you can do is create a new profile with a name of your choice and then transfer all your data from the old profile to the new. Then you can delete your old profile
