Open the pre-scan tool again, this time put a check on the box that says to add the cat files back to the windows catalog database and then run the pre-scan again and let me know if that file still shows up

Ok then the file is most likly bad and needs replaced.

I have attached the file you need, unzip it and then move it to the packages folder that the log shows.

But first you will need to take ownership of that folder so that you have access to it, download the take ownership zip file from this page
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/add_quottake_ownershipquot_to_right_click_menu_in_vista_amp_7,1.html

Run the reg file in it and it will add a right click option to take ownership of a file or folder,

Then go to C:\Windows\servicing\ and right click on Packages and click on take ownership. After you do that you will be able to copy that file into there and replace the bad one.

Hi, check out my reply in another thread http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php/topic,3107.0.html - I had a similar issue after doing a Repair install and then updating Windows, the SFC scan went from clear to finding corrupt files, some of which couldn't be repaired. I can only assume it was caused by one (or more) of the updates being installed/configured incorrectly...

I used the SFCFix.exe file from the link in the above thread and it cleared my corrupt SFC scan so give it a go if you get a minute (or maybe an hour or more - it took a good while to run on my Win7 64 bit Home Premium but did the job well after that!)

Looking at the cbs log you will see things like this

Quote
Hashes for file member \SystemRoot\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-u..ed-telemetry-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.18839_none_a1e9aa37653a7ea4\telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json do not match actual file [l:66{33}]"telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json" :
  Found: {l:32 b:ddW/ziH5iRGiXQCN1UI4xhGYdCmRBwYaMf/LZiyKogk=} Expected: {l:32 b:EeQJzlVPvq9GNIcA2FEwrOjEeuDam1G+ol3x61gKasQ=}

Notice this part
Found: {l:32 b:ddW/ziH5iRGiXQCN1UI4xhGYdCmRBwYaMf/LZiyKogk=}
Expected: {l:32 b:EeQJzlVPvq9GNIcA2FEwrOjEeuDam1G+ol3x61gKasQ=}

What this is saying is the found one is the hash of the file and windows looks at the cat file to pull what the hash of the file should be and as you can see they dont match. If a file is changed even by 1 byte the hash changes.

So either the file is corrupted or the cat file is. Problem is we dont know which and the log doesnt give us much to go on. Sometimes the system readiness tool from MS can help but if it doesnt and there is file corruption in the winsxs folder you may have no option other than doing a repair install of windows because MS has no way of rebuilding the winsxs folder.

Depending how many files are found to be bad we could just manually replace the files from a good machine, but if there is a LOT of files then a repair install is going to be needed.

In this case you also had a mum file that was shown as bad, mainly because it was modified somehow and so the hash didnt match. Well now I am seeing that in a lot of other places, this doesnt normally happen unless something went and messed with them OR the hard drive has bad sectors and those files are on the bad sectors and so are getting corrupt.

Have you done a bad sector check on the drive yet?

The command for it is to open a cmd.exe window as administrator and put it

chkdsk C: /r

It will say the drive is in use and would you like to do it at next boot, hit Y and have it do it and then reboot and let the scan go, it will take a while but lets see what it shows.

You are still getting corrupt files after a fresh install? Was it a fresh as in delete the file system and start fresh install or was it a repair install?

Also when you did a chkdsk on the drive for bad sectors what was the results?

yes i still get corrupted files , and i did a fresh install after i formatted my disk.

the chkdsk said that i need to reboot my computer and it took so long more than an hour so i left it till it is done and computer automatically started so i didnt see the results.
but i did chkdsk before i formatted my drrive and reinstalled windows , do i have to do it again ?

If you would do it again that would be great, try doing it at a time where you dont need to be on the system, then once it is done doing the chkdsk the results will be in the event viewer and we can see if any bad sectors where found.

ckhdsk is not working and it cancels alone .

every time i run it , it display this:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /r
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N) y

This volume will be checked the next time the system restarts.

C:\Windows\system32>

after i reboot my computer , it will say disk check has been cancelled even if i dont press any keyboard key. i tried it alot but it wont run . even i tried chkdisk /f too and no luck with it.

Why have you marked this thread as Solved when you still clearly have problems ?

If the chkdsk still cancels then give your keyboard a blow out with a can of compressed air as it could be sensing a key pressed if one is partially sticking.

Running a chkdsk without any parameters will give you the same info on bad sectors without the need for the volume to be dismounted and a reboot.

Try this instead

chkdsk c: /r

I noticed you didnt tell it what drive letter to check.

i tried this too but it didnt work . i tried it in safe mode also.
after i reboot my computer it will display :

checking file system on C:
the type of the file system is NTFS.
A disk check has been scheduled.
disk checking has been cancelled.

it will display this massage for only 2 seconds and there is no options.

i also tried to cancle the chkdsk from cmd and assign it again , it also didnt work .

but i noticed something in my registery :
in session manager the bootexecute is always modified  by default like this (autocheck autochk /k:C *) not (autocheck autochk*)
and when i do chkdsk in cmd it will change to (autocheck autochk /r \??\C:autocheck autochk /k:C *)
so is it normal ?

i also noticed that after i schedule a disk check it wont be displayed in tast scheduler.

even i tried to do chkdsk from computer-properties-tools-check now & i tried to use third party application and that didnt work too.

so might it be a problem caused by a faulty hdd or corrupted windows setup ?

Try it again, this time when you see the Windows logo starting up and before the chkdsk screen shows up, unplug your keyboard. I want to see what happens there.

I was researching this and found a few users who had a stuck key on the keyboard, and with the boot time chkdsk if ANYTHING is touched it is canceled. So it is worth a quick try, unless it is a laptop that is lol

Chkdsk doesnt run at startup, instead it is another exe made to run in that mode, and that is autochk. Chkdsk can only be ran in Windows.

There is also the chkntfs tool we can use as well

Quote
chkntfs /?
Displays or modifies the checking of disk at boot time.

CHKNTFS volume [...]
CHKNTFS /D
CHKNTFS /T[:time]
CHKNTFS /X volume [...]
CHKNTFS /C volume [...]

volume         Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon),
                 mount point, or volume name.
/D             Restores the machine to the default behavior; all drives are
checked at boot time and chkdsk is run on those that are
                 dirty.
/T:time        Changes the AUTOCHK initiation countdown time to the
specified amount of time in seconds.  If time is not
                 specified, displays the current setting.
/X             Excludes a drive from the default boot-time check.  Excluded
drives are not accumulated between command invocations.
/C             Schedules a drive to be checked at boot time; chkdsk will run
                 if the drive is dirty.

If no switches are specified, CHKNTFS will display if the specified drive is
dirty or scheduled to be checked on next reboot.

i have a laptop i cant disconnect the keyboard and the chkntfs tool didnt work too.

but i have inserted the installation disk in my computer and i booted from it , then inside the setup i clicked on repair and there i clicked on cmd and typed the chkdsk C: /r and it worked . i couldnt save it but i remember that it said that window replaced some files also there is bad sectors.

but i can still not able to do it within windows only it works with installation disk .

so i tried to run sfc/SCANNNOW in cmd to see if the problem is fixed but windows is still reporting that i have corrupted files and cant be fixed.even that it has been only about one week since i fresh installed windows , i also did windows repairs and pre scann , in pre scan it didnt report of bad or corrupted files or packages so i did all the repairs, now my windows crashes alot and sfc is still reporting bad files.

Bad sectors means time to replace the drive.

Those bad sectors are what is causing all the problems.
