Hi, Shane!  You helped me lots a couple of years ago with my old computer.  Just got a new Dell Inspiron 15, 7000 Series (7548) with Windows 8.1.  Was able to get all my files/folders switched over and all my programs are back up and running.  I think I'm liking the machine alot!  My problem is that I can't get the Windows Store to cooperate with me and no one seems to have a fix!  I have tried every possible fix I could find online; I have had Microsoft's Level 1 and Level 2 technicians try it all again; I have had a Dell technician try it all again; I have tried your Windows All-In-One Repair.  Now I am being told that the only possible fix is to reinstall my Windows 8.1 operating system, but of course that then means I'll have to re-input all my files/folders again and reinstall all my programs again.....just 3 weeks after I just did that!  And there's no guarantee that this will even fix the problem!  Dell is sending me a usb with the full system on it, since I'm under warranty, which I'm going to accept when it arrives.  But I'm thinking that with Windows 10 coming out this year for all of us, and I really don't use the Store anyway (found a way to get my original Windows 7 Spider Solitaire which is what began the whole search!), that I'm not going to spend any more time on this problem and hope that Windows 10 will have a fix built in to it.  Any thoughts from you, above and beyond the reinstall/refresh?  Would love to hear them!  Thanks, Eve

Did you run all the repairs or only certain ones? (Normally like it to have you do all repairs and in safe mode with networking)

OK, lets find out if it is something with the user account or not.

As a test, create a new local account on the system and then log in with that account and see if the store works for the new user. That will tell me if it is a profile problem or if it doesnt work either, if it is something wrong in the system itself.

Ok, do me a fav, this is a tool i am still making and I want to see if it gives any results.

Extract the exe from the zip file I attached, then when you run it make sure to right click on it and choose run as administrator.

Then when it is open click the check now button and let it finish its scan. When it is done, if either of the lists has any files listed in it let me know

Okay, okay, I was curious and ran the scan.  Response was "(Total files checked 7352) Total missing files:  0 -  Total possibly corrupt files:  0)"

Like I said before, I really have tried everything.  I am just hoping that Windows 10 has fixed all of these possible Windows 8/8.1 problems.

Any more suggestions and I'm willing to try them!  Just not tonight......I'm going to sleep now!

I'm still hoping I'm not going to have to do a reinstall or a refresh of Windows 8.1 and have run across another interesting aside that probably has something to do with this.  When I look at the Event Viewer, Administrative Events, I have many errors that date back to 2/3/15, the 2nd week of having my new computer.  This is the week I discovered that the Store was not working properly.  So, I'd say it's safe to assume the event errors and the Store issues are related.  Anyway, here are the errors and their details -

- System
  - Provider
   [ Name]  Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service
   [ Guid]  {89B1E9F0-5AFF-44A6-9B44-0A07A7CE5845

Error The configuration registry database is corrupt.
  File C:\Users\thatcrazydoglady\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\\UsrClass.dat

- System
  - Provider
   [ Name]  Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service
   [ Guid]  {89B1E9F0-5AFF-44A6-9B44-0A07A7CE5845}

   Channel Application
   Computer crazydoglady

   [ UserID]  S-1-5-18
- EventData
Error The configuration registry database is corrupt.

These 2 errors keep repeating and they are all for UserID   S-1-5-18 and like I said, they began on 2/3/15.  On 2/2/15, there were lots of WindowsUpdateClient errors, so could that be part of the problem also?   So, is S-1-5-18 me?  If so, how can I fix this?  I also appear to have in the Registry these user ids also   S-1-5-19, S1-5-20, and S-1-5-21-18567169-1918087116-4124101320-1001  , but not sure which one is me as administrator, or.......???????

For the first listed error, when I go to C:\Users\thatcrazydoglady\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\\UsrClass.dat , I don't find there to be a UsrClass.dat, but rather 2 empty files that are INetCache and INetCookies.

Hope this helps!

S-1-5-18 is the Local System
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243330

Those errors are saying that part of the registry for that user account is corrupt, but didnt you create a new user and that new user account had trouble as well?

Yes, I did, but when it didn't seem to work, I removed it.  I hadn't thought to check the Event Viewer at that time, so didn't know that all these errors related to this one user, S-1-5-18.  And that doesn't explain why a new user still couldn't make the Store work.  And why do the same errors appear whether I'm using my local account or my Microsoft account?  Aren't those already 2 different user accounts?  Yet the only numeric user number is the one above?

That ID is the local system account, it is system wide, doesnt matter on the user.

That means if it is having trouble then it is machine wide and not user. Which explains why a new user account didnt fix it.

What was the last version of my Windows repair I had you try?

2.11.0, but it looks like you now have 2.11.2 available.  Should I give that a try?  In Safe Mode?

Safe mode with networking and run ALL the repairs. Do a registry backup first and lets just see what happens.

I also released my technicians toolbox, which has a built in Windows User Manager, so if we do create a new user account again to test I want to use it, because I want a local user account and not an online one.

Sorry that took so long.  Got curious and downloaded the newest update to the Windows Repair program and ran it with all the repairs, with the registry backup first.  Unfortunately the error messages remain in the Event Viewer, altho' my Iobit Uninstall program has removed lots of leftover files from (the ones I can remember) Skype, One Note, Games, and I think another couple or so.

I did also download your technicians toolbox program, but haven't really looked at it yet.  should I create a new local account?  Currently it is listing the following -

Administrator                2 groups       9 days                             disabled
Guest                           1 group       not set or must change      disabled
Home group users         1 group       28 days                            enabled
thatcrazydoglady           2 groups       0 days                            enabled

Also, all of the users I listed above show with the SID of  S1-5-21 with a string of various numbers following it.

Okay, I went ahead a created a new local user account.  All went as it should until I got to the step where I was supposed to change the password.  I did and it seemed to have been accepted, but then I got the following message and was not able to open this new local account!

The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.  User profile cannot be loaded.

So, now what?  I'm here for about another half hour but then must go out till around noon and will be back for the duration after that.  Thanks!

I want to dig into it myself actually.

I pulled a all nighter getting the 2 programs out today, just got done eating breakfast to keep my self going lol

So if your on then send me an email and I will teamviewer into you and see what i can find out.

Also on the user profile service, I havent been able to replicate that here, but I have seen some people get it after using the Windows repair, but not everyone and I havent been able to make it happen here. There must be something on your system that isnt on my test system and I want to take this chance to find out what and put in a fix for that in the program :-)

So please dont reinstall or do a refresh on Windows till I can at least look at it lol

Shane is amazing!  Using a "take-over" program, he was able to fix my problems and now my computer is working the way it should!  He was even able to find some additional fixes that he will now add to his next update.  And I thought my patience level was high with computers........He's fantastic and actually FIXED my problems!!!  Now I don't have to reinstall/refresh/repair Windows 8.1, which I was pretty sure wasn't going to fix the problems anyway and would have just caused me to spin my wheels.  Dell and Microsoft need to take notice of this and give this man a medal/job/bonus for what he is capable of that they were not!  Thank you so much, Shane!!!
