Error 0x80070002 won't update apps win 8
« on: October 21, 2014, 01:13:53 pm »
I have Win 8.
I'm trying to update some apps and go to Win 8.1

However when I try to update apps and try to go update to Win 8.1 I get the error 'Something went wrong. App could not be installed. Error 0x80070002'.

I ran the Tweaking repair (but without a 'clean boot').
I selected all repairs.

I still have the error, unfortunately.

Is there any advice on how to get rid of this error and be able to update again.

Thank you.

As a test, create a new user account and login with that account and see if the app store starts working. Also when you ran my Windows Repair did you run all the repairs? And what version of the program did you use? I just put out v2.10.0 today and it can now be ran from safe mode.

I used version 10.0, the latest version.

How do I create new account?

If that doesn't work I'll try running all the repairs from Save mode, or the Clean boot, whichever one is easier.

Thank you.

Go to control panel and user accounts and you can create a new account there.

Hi.

There are different choices going to Control Panel/Create User Account - create an account and create a standard account.
Both places, when I try to create an account, it asks me for my email address. When I enter my email address, it comes back and says there is already an account with that email address.
Sorry but I can't create another user account unless there is some other method.

You could try again after creating a gmail account https://www.gmail.com/intl/en/mail/help/about.html

I created a 'local account'.
Is that good enough?

Also another stupid question - how do I logon to my new account?

I tried restart but it didn't ask me what account should be used.

Thanks.

Thank you.

When you create a new local account, when you reboot and come up to the login screen it should give you a choice of which account to log into.

When I start the computer it never asks for a login.
I have a local account now and when I started the computer this morning it booted up as normal.
There was never a choice of login accounts.
I'm in my 'normal' account, not my local account.

Ok try this, go to the desktop and right click on the start button (If you have 8.1 you should have the start button) then you will see a log off or restart option, you can try the log off option and see if it gives you the log in screen, or if there is a switch users option you can try that as well.

Thanks for the ideas, but
sorry, I have Win 8.0 so no Start button.

My choices are sleep, restart and shut down.

I tried restart but it never gives me a choice.

I'm trying to update to Win 8.1 but I can't, and I get the error code.

But I'll see if I can find some way to switch users.

This is a very aggravating error because it stops all my updates.

Could be worth running the Dism command in an elevated command prompt followed by a reboot.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

You could run this one first if you want - Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

I was able to create a local account but that failed on the same error when I tried to update an app.

I'm not sure if local acct's are allowed to update.

Running a sfc /scannow from the command prompt in admin mode may also find something to repair.

I ran scannow and it said Window Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
