usb 2.0
« on: July 06, 2014, 03:24:31 am »
hi i'm new here but i have a usb driver problem.
recently my usb ports not working it is no longer recognized by Windows I have tried all drivers but I keep getting error messages.
I also tried the usb fix windows microsoft I've tried the high and low filter in the register I've tried everything it is not a hardware problem it's windows7
I had a virus or malware, but that's gone now I think there is some damage in windows.
I've used windows repair (all in one) v2.7.5 it does fix some  problems but not the usb problem.
everything works fine in windows but no usb.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) Build 7601
GIGABYTE EP45-DS3L
chipset:Intel P45 (Eaglelake-P) + ICH10 Consumer

I want to try something, but I need a good working copy from USB.inf and USB.PNF  maybe these files are corupted

Hi

Is USB Controllers showing in device manager and are there ports listed under that entry?

If yes I would right click/uninstall them then restart the machine and see if windows loads the drivers?

If not go to device manager select USB controllers then Action/Scan for hardware changes.

Cheers

It could be hardware related or it could be something royaly screwed up in the registry fro the hardware and is what might be causing the problem.

How do you know it isnt hardware related? What test did you do? Normally I would download Ubuntu, boot off the cd and see if USB works in there. Since I can run ubuntu right off the cd without having to install it, it makes it a great test for the hardware with Windows out of the way.

If the hardware is fine then a repair install might be the best best, mainly because if it is that screwed up with the errors you have the and large number of unknown showing up inn the device manager.

Thankfully a repair install is easy to do and you dont lose everything like you do with a fresh install. Some times a repair install may not fix this since a repair install is basiclly doing a upgrade to the same version of windows and a lot of times the drivers and hardware info carry over, but it is worth a shot.

First you will need a Windows 7 with service pack 1 already on it, you can grab a image here if you dont have one

And then just follow this guide

So the repair install of Windows 7 is trying to install a driver and it is unable to.

If you already ran all the repair in my windows repair tool, then that should take care of permissions. I would boot into safe mode and then go to the device manager. Under view click on show hidden devices.

Then I would go down the list and remove all unknown hardware that is shown. Then under each and every category in the list, I would expand them, hardware that is no longer on the system or windows things isnt will be partially transparent. Remove all that you find. This might take a little bit.

Once done reboot the system and see if that helped any.

You might be stuck doing a fresh install after all. Either files are corrupt and missing or something is really screwed up in the registry for Windows not to be able to install normal drivers.

Does the event viewer give any messages about it?

Look under system or application event viewer and see if you find any errors that relate to it.

I think it is time to backup your data that you cant replace and do a fresh install of 7. Looks like you have a lot more problems than just usb

Happy to help.

I have order a few SSD for customers to put in their systems, so far I have been sticking with the Samsung Pros as they have great speed, some of the best ratings and a good warranty. Might be worth checking out
