I have seen these errors before but I had put in fixes for them, odd to see they are back.

When you ran the repairs did you run all the repairs or only select ones?

OK, I know the other times I have seen that it is when the com++ had been corrupted, on others it was because a dll needed registered again.

I just installed a fresh vista with sp2 in vmware and i am running all the repairs now to see if I can replicate it.

Are there any other errors on the systems? If it was com++ then other things would be broken as well.

Also you can restore the registry with the program from before the repairs and it will be back to normal. But you are the 2nd person about the mmc in windows 7 giving that error so I want to get this fixed, so if you dont mind waiting before restoring the registry :-)

In the windows 7 are you able to open mmc.exe at all?

In the middle of running a system restore now on one of the two unit's to see if I can get it back.  The other I removed the restore points on and can't roll it back; that's okay though just talked to my friend about the system.  They don't really care about the audio just were concerned about getting it running to the point they could run it / extract their files for another system.  More of an FYI thing!

No need to use system restore, it is all registry related, just restore the registry backup my program made and it will put it back to the way it was :-)

The repairs are running right now on the vista install I did so I will have the results of it shortly.

Was anything else other than audio having trouble on the vista system, such as the windows firewall or any other errors in the event viewer?

On on the windows 7 you say it was gone? What do you mean, the mmc.exe is missing or you simply cant open mmc.exe directly either?

Ok just finished all the repairs on the fresh vista install and audio is working fine, also ran all the repairs on Windows 7 and mmc.exe is working fine.

So on both systems go to start and then run and put in
comexp.msc

Once Component Services opens expand Component Services on the left and computers and then my computer. Is there a red down arrow anywhere there? Post a screen shot if you can.

FYI both systems were massively infected with viruses and spyware both.  Over 300 per system.  I'm sure that had something to do with it as well.

Very possible, but if a virus did do something to it then I want my windows repair to fix the damage it did, so if something is different I want to find out :-)

If you are on one of the systems I have time to teamviewer in and take a look.

If so send me an email to shane at tweaking dot com

Well system restore has seemed to fix the sound issue on the Windows 7 System and everything is back to normal on that unit.  I am plugging in the Windows Vista System right now and going to setup TeamViewer For you and send you a private message so you can take a look at that one if you wish.

That sounds good, would have loved to look at the 7 system as well but at least I can take a look at the vista one :-)
