PC Does not automaticallyconnect to Wifi Network
« on: June 20, 2014, 05:30:58 pm »
Hi

my Vista PC, fully updated, does not connect automaticaly when the PC is started, once I connect it works fine.

When I connect I enter the password and select the "connect automaticaly" check box when it shows but the PC
still does not connect until I manuall select "connect to a network" and manually connect.

This did not happen when I had a cable connection but have moved house and now have a wireless modem, I have disabled the
ethernet cable card but that did not help.

The internal Wirelss card is made by AzureWave Technologies, Inc, the driver is provided by Ralink, I cannot find the model name/number.

I have tried uninstalling the driver and updating it, uninstalling made no difference and the Auto Update found no new drivers.

I could not find a driver online, it is difficult without knowing which driver to search for.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions with this problem.

Thanks

savey

I have had this happen on a few of my customers machines. It turned out the store password info in windows was corrupt.

So I went to the network and sharing center, on the left I clicked on manage wireless networks. There you will see the saved networks. I removed them all, rebooted and the next time Windows finally started auto connecting after I had it connect one more time and it saved the info fresh.

Would this problem be in Windows 8 too?

Hi

sorry it took so long to get back to you, I have notbeen able to get onto this PC.

When I go to Manage Wireless Networks, no Networks are listed, when I try to Add
my Network, it is not accepted.

When I go to Manage Network Connections my Wireles Network is shown as working.

Where can I go from here?

thanks

Well now you know where the problem is. The system is unable to save the wireless network info on the system.

I looked up people who had the same problem, for some people windows wasnt in control of the wireless networks but instead the wireless card had software installed that was in control of it.

Such as this person here

Quote

PROBLEM SOLVED.

The reason none of this advice works is because this is not a Microsoft issue. This is a Wireless Adapter issue.

If you are like me and using a wireless adapter (NetGear Wireless N300) you need to instruct the device to enter your Network Access Security Key at the time the computer powers up.

For NetGear users (and similar) open the device's smart wizard and instruct it to JOIN A NETWORK using your standard security key. This will tell the device to log into your wireless signal at startup.

the problem is, we are all instructing our computer to login, but we adapter is overriding the computer.

What wireless adapter do you have and does it have its own software it uses? For me I always have the wireless adapters controlled by windows.

Then other people who had the problem had it due to a permissions problem such as this person

Quote
1) Go to the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc\Profiles (it's hidden folder so you'll have to manually type the path from the windows start bar),
2) Give the local Administrators group full permissions;
a) In windows explorer, right click within the folder and select properties
b) Select the Security tab
c) Click Edit
d) Select the Administrators group (or if it's not there already, add it)
e) Ensure all the permissions are ticked, with the exception of special permissions,
f) Click OK then OK.
3) Try adding a wireless profile again by going to Network and Sharing Centre - you should not now get the "Access Denied" message.

So what you can try there is use my Windows Repair tool. Have it do a registry backup first, and then when you get to the repairs unselect all of them and only do the first 3 repairs, which all have to do with permissions.

Hi

I must say, I really appreciate your patience and input with this issue, posting the details of other
similar problems and solutions must have taken time to do.

However, after running your Windows Repair tool I still have the same problem. All permissions are there
in the Administrators group .

Any ideas where to from here?

Hi

my apologies, I missed that question.

In device manager it is listed as 802.11 n/g/b Wireless Lan USB Adapter,
it is not a USB Adapter it is attached to the motherboard.

The manufactures is listed as Azure Technologies and the driver is
by Ralink,

I do not know of any software that connects, I click on the connection icon (std windows icon)
beside the clock on the task bar and select conect to a Network.

But in my programs list in Revo Uninstaller there are two entries listed as "Intel Pro Network Connections"
and "Intel Pro Network Connections 12.2.41.0"

Thanks again for your help.

regards

Daniel

From what I was reading on the problem it looks like the drivers of the wireless can be a be cause of it, and it sounds like that might be what it is.

So lets see what your wireless adapter shows up as for other systems :-)

Download my hardware identify program
http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/tweaking_com_hardware_identify.html

Then once it is open make sure to have it update the database. Once that is done find your wireless adpater in the list and double click on it, when it opens it will look in the database for anything that matches the hardware ID of the wireless. Post a screen shot of the results for me

Well it looks like that is how that wireless is labeled after all.

Can you check and see what driver version is installed? Then tell me the make and model of your computer and I will see if I can find updated drivers. It is the holiday weekend, so I may not reply to quickly lol

Wife and kids get to have me all to themselves the next few days  :cheesy:

Hi

enjoy the time with the family, I will gladly wait.

In any case the power line to that PC is disconnected for some renovations and
will be down a couple of days.

The PC is a Medion made in Germany when Aldi owned Medion. The driver is the latest listed
for the PC but maybe a more specific one would be better.

I'll send the data as soon as the P is up and running.

Not sure why that user posted that as teamviewer has nothing to do with this lol

Do me a fav, with my hardware identifier program, right click on the wireless adapter in the list and choose copy hardware IDs, past those in a post for me, and then I will go see what driver I can find.

I am sure there are other systems out there that have the same one but with newer drivers. i also still need to know the driver version you have installed.

Hi

Here is the Hardware identifier data for you.

USB\VID_13D3&PID_3247&REV_0801|USB\VID_13D3&PID_3247

Driver version is 2.1.1.0 supplied by Ralink
I downloaded this from the Medion site.

thanks and regards

Ok so I did some searching and looks like that wireless is used in all kinds of systems, so we can use a driver from one of them. Here I found a acer that uses that wireless, driver version is 3.01 and I downloaded the driver and checked the inf file and your hardware ID is in there. So these should work.

I forgot to ask what version of Windows you are on.

In case you need to try different ones the one I found was for the tower, Acer Aspire X1930

Here is the Windows 7 64 bit one (Looks like it has vista and xp with it as well)
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Wireless%20LAN/Wireless%20LAN_Ralink_3.01.04.0000_W7x64_A.zip?acerid=634311139863017187&Step1=DESKTOP&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%20X1930&OS=711&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

There is no setup with it, so you extract the zip file and then go to device manager, open the wireless adapater there and go to driver and then click update driver. Then you tell windows you will search for the driver yourself and then choose the driver from the folder.

If you need 32 bit here it is
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Wireless%20LAN/Wireless%20LAN_Pro-Nets_3.01.04.0000_W7x86_A.zip?acerid=634473294524335223&Step1=DESKTOP&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%20X1930&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Hope that helps

Hi

I'm afraid that did not fix the problem, the new driver is listed as
Version: 3.1.4.0 and date 22/07/2010, still supplied by Ralink.

I thought I would let you know about the log-on process as I have not seen this process before, my W7 and W8.1 PC's
do not have the same screens, only this Vista Home Premium (fully updated) PC, even my Vista Ultimate PC,
when it was around did not have the same log-on screens, it just may be a clue.

The first screen is self explanatory

The second screen asks for a PIN, but I only have a 10 digit network key or passphrase I click on
"I want to enter the Network Key or Oassohrase instead"

The third screen is where I enter the key, I do not have a USB with network settings, then I click on connect

The fourth screen shows "Successfully connected" "Save this network" and
"start this connection automatically" which of course  it does not.

I really help this will give some more clues to the problem.

Hang in there.

OK so now if you go checked the saved wireless networks again does it show up? If it doesnt try manually adding it right there and see if it saves

I have covered all the bases for the normal stuff to look at, but not looking at it myself i am not sure if we missed anything.

If you want I can teamviewer in and take a quick look and see if I can find a way to fix it. Just have to find a time we are both online.
