My computer is slow to start and I have read that you can go into msconfig and enable or disable things.  If you disable for example a malware programme does this stop it working completely?  If not when does it kick in?

msconfig is just a way to disable items that are set to run when you start the computer. The program itself is still installed and runs fine and you can go open it yourself.

msconfig simply removes the flag to tell windows to run it when windows boots up, thats all. The less items at startup the faster it will be, then you can go open the programs you need after :-)
