Hardware Identify 1.2.0 Error 3706
« on: April 18, 2014, 01:31:46 pm »
Updated to Hardware Identify 1.2.0 (portable) from 1.0.0 (portable).  I get ERROR: 3706 Provider could not be found.  (could not open database with ADO!). 1.0.0 still works.

That is because in v1.0.0 the program simply went through a text file to pull the data. Well as the database grew it got slower and slower.

So starting with 1.1.0 and so on I moved the data from a text file to a access database. Which in order to work with the database the program uses ADO, which is part of MDAC and part of Windows.

The error you are getting means ADO is messed up on your system for some reason.

So grab my Windows Repair tool.

When you get to the repairs uncheck all of them and then only put a check on number 7 "Repair MDAC/MS Jet"

That repair will register all the MDAC and MS Jet files. You may need to reboot. See if that gets ADO working on your system :-)
