Issues with the blue 'No Problems Found '
« on: March 21, 2014, 04:55:09 pm »
Great program!  I have three logs, below, to show, with  comments interspersed  between at the beginning of each report.

The issue is that the Checkdisk logs are saying there are errors, while the blue lettering says that there is no problems with the permissions.  Something is wrong there.  The log definitely says there are issues that cant be fixed in read only mode, while the blue lettering says all is well.

Interestingly, even though the first button (without restart) is supposed to be checking in read only mode, and I presume should be making no changes...it actually is deleting some items according to the windows log.
Thanks!

 =====================================

I ran it a fourth time also, but didn’t bother recording the results.  I then decided to stop playing around and to run the CheckDisk with restart option.

I did that, repeating the fix and restart three times, and all was well after that.  (somewhere alone the way, the lettering turned red and told me I needed to restart)
Once I finished the second run, the log and the blue lettering were in agreement. I ran it one more time for good measure.

A thought:  You can have Tweaking All in one add a bad block detect and repair mode. I believe this can be done using Checkdisk.
You may consider put a checkbox to also have CheckDisk check for bad blocks, (which takes much longer, so it should have a warning)  the command  format of which I believe is Chkdsk.exe  /r

That is odd that the program didnt see that chkdsk reported errors.

What I have it do is very simple, after the chkdsk is done it does a string search for the words "Errors found" and if it sees it then it says there are errors.

For some odd reason it wasnt seeing it, it does do the string search in the text box in the program which the cmd should be piping the responses to. But if for some reason it isnt maybe I should have the program scan the log for the "Errors found" instead?

So then, if I understand you, you are not scanning the log itself at this time...
Maybe if you scan both places...then it cant be missed!

Thank you by the way for the VERY quick response.

I also notice on the screen that when running the CheckDisk scan, sometimes one of the numbered percent complete feedbacks  is on the same line as the other with a little box in front.
It is meaningless, just appearances,  but there may be a hidden character in there or a missing return character .

Ex:  (I substituted ' _ 'for the little box I see on screen, this is not an actual example)

Ah I see what is happening and why ti didnt work. On my systems that I tested it on chkdsk would come back with "windows found problems" And that is what I am looking for.

                'ok now search the text to see if any errors where found
                If Not InStr(1, LCase$(FrmChkDskLog.TextChkDskLog.Text), LCase$("windows found problems")) = 0 Then
                    LabelChkDskErrorFound.Visible = True
                    LabelChkDskNoError.Visible = False
                Else
                    LabelChkDskErrorFound.Visible = False
                    LabelChkDskNoError.Visible = True
                End If
                DoEvents

So all i need to do it have it search for errors found as well and that should take care of it.

like this perhaps

Quote
                'ok now search the text to see if any errors where found
                If InStr(1, LCase$(FrmChkDskLog.TextChkDskLog.Text), LCase$("windows found problems")) <> 0 Or InStr(1, LCase$(FrmChkDskLog.TextChkDskLog.Text), LCase$("errors found")) <> 0 Then
                    LabelChkDskErrorFound.Visible = True
                    LabelChkDskNoError.Visible = False
                Else
                    LabelChkDskErrorFound.Visible = False
                    LabelChkDskNoError.Visible = True
                End If
                DoEvents

I have no control how the text comes back to me. I create a cmd pipe to the cmd console through a API call and it sends the text response to a textbox control in my program. In XP it looks fine, but in vista and newer MS gave the chkdsk a better progress text, which is what you see so much of in the log. That text is being sent through the pipe to the text box.

I could try to clean it up perhaps by having the program check the last line in the textbox and if it percent complete it replaces that line with the new one, would keep it from getting so long like that.

As for the chkdsk fixing things in read only mode I wouldnt worry about it. The program only sends chkdsk C: and nothing else

Call StdIO.WriteData("chkdsk " & sWindowsDriveLetter)
