Cannot change biometric settings
« on: March 02, 2014, 07:07:49 pm »
I ran your cleaner and helped my system and my insomnia. It, however, won't let me change biometric settings (greyed out) I'm assuming it's a permissions issue (but I ran the permissions repair module already!) Should I run just permissions repair again, or am I missing something. (The fingerprint log-on no longer works (broken cable on laptop,) I do not need it and I wanted to remove the superfluous fingerprint log-on screen. I removed the bio database folder from System/Win32.

It shows in the screen Windows wont let you change it because it is managed by a system administrator. Which just means there is a registry key policy that has it enabled :-)

See if this page helps on finding the regkey for it.

Did you try option 2 on that page where it has you try it through the policy editor?

I followed option 2 still no access. There must be more registry keys allowing biometrics...?

In the registry try putting the enabled to 1 and then reboot and see if it enables the options.

Do you have a remove all function when you go to the pc settings?

No, I do not see that. I now suspect the HP SimplePass software, which I cannot find anywhere left something behind...This is an HP Pavillion DV9600 laptop.

What is the status of the service Windows Biometric Service on your system?

Shane, I found the solution: HP laptops have a security program Digital Persona, in charge of fingerprints etc., with associated registry keys apparently overriding the one I disabled. I uninstalled it from CTRL PNL, rebooted and DONE. Thanks for your time on this!

Ah that explains why Windows was saying your system admin had control over it and it wouldnt let you change it.

Glad you found out what it was!
