Very slow setting of file permissions in C:
« on: February 07, 2014, 10:41:19 am »
Hi,
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on an Asus Seashell 11" AMD E 350 Processor, 8 Gig RAM.
I am using the program for the first time, and have gone through every step to the Repair step. I have every option ticked, but I notice that options 2.1 & 2.2 are unticked by default.
There are 208,000 files on my C drive, and so far the program has taken 17 hours 37 minutes to reset those file permissions. Methnks that's too long.
I was just running it all through to resolve one problem, and any other problems I might not have known about.
The one problem I have/had was that an external drive - USB powered - was causing(?) my computer to stop dead. This is probably a hardware rather than a software problem I know, but I thought I would try this program to see if it could turn up something. :undecided:
Thanks,
Don

The file permissions shouldnt take more than 5 or 10 on most systems.

If it is going for 17 hours then it sounds like it is stuck in a loop. I have the file permissions set to ignore and skip symbolic links and junctions. That is where one folder will point to another, and some times it will point back to a parent folder, boom we now have an infinite loop.

What folder was it working on that was taking so long and does the log files give you any indication on where the folder was that it was having trouble with?

Yes, I think you're right about the loop. It was an AVG Quarantine folder, and I'm not using AVG as a AV now. I deleted it and restarted the Repair. I am going to the movies now and presume that it should finish in the interim.
Thankyou so much,
Don

Yes it worked fine once I got over the loop. Thank you.
