I have never been a fan of Windows backup, I should start digging into it and see about making a repair.

For now I tell users they can use the free fbackup (fbackup.com)

That is what I put on my customers machines.

If I am going to make a repair for the Windows backup I will need to start digging into it.

SO what is the error you are getting with it?

OK the backup error has to do with the Volume shadow copy service and one of its writers.

If my Windows repair doesnt fix it try these
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/tweaking_com_registry_backup_online_help,2.html

My Reg backup program uses VSS and 90% of the time one of these repairs on this page gets it fixed

Hi Shane
I appreciate your help - none of this seems to work. How can I use fbackup  :cheesy: to backup my system so I can restore the computer in case of it crashing?

Fbackup simply makes a copy of all the files on your system. Isnt the best for restoring the system as a full image.

Those kind of backup programs are not normally free. But they can make a full system backup and if the system crashes you can restore.

The Windows backup needs VSS to work. Lets see if we can get VSS to work if your still up for it :-)

Shane - good luck on your anniversary - I'm nearly 30 years married - you've a bit to go before you reach my level of stability of marriage!

Enjoy the day!

Thanks.

Go ahead and at least get a backup going with fbackup so you have a copy of your files. Make sure your backing up to an external drive.

Once you have a good backup we can start trying a few things :-)

OK now lets see if we have VSS working yet or not.

Download and use my registry backup tool. It uses VSS. Lets see if it is able to make a backup with VSS and lets go from there

Hi Shane
Downloaded most recent version and tried it - stated it used fallback in stead of VCS. See attachment.

OK so VSS is still the problem.

Did you try every solution on this page yet?

If not lets go through them 1 by 1.

Also is there any errors in the event viewer for VSS?
