Event.msc & no updates or install programs now
« on: May 31, 2013, 01:20:46 pm »
Need some ideas here;

1. Event.msc will not open from a CLEAN INSTALL

2. Vista Will not install any updates or programs

Need some ideas here;

1. Event.msc will not open

For the record: MSFT, why add it if it dont work?

 1) Used msconfig to switch to safe mode boot
 2) Booted to safe mode
 3) ran cmd.exe as an administrator
 4) typed "cd C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI"
 5) typed "rename RtBackup RtBackup2"
 6) Used msconfig to switch to normal boot mode
 7) Reboot and found event viewer working

I find this not useful as it says; {access is denied}

trying;

KB Article Number(s): 972999
Language: All (Global)
Platform: i386
Location: (http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%20Vista/sp3/Fix282407/6000/free/386394_intl_i386_zip.exe)

It works; let the system reboot;;;;;;; OKKKK!

====================================
2. Vista Will not install any updates or programs

Trying these methods now;

update regsitry fix:

> Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
>
> [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Group Policy
> Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate\DisableWindowsUpd

ateAccess]
>
> [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
> "NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000000
>
> [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Explorer]
> "NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000000
>
> [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
> "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
> "AUOptions"=dword:00000000
>
> [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\WindowsUpdate]
> [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate]
>
> [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
> "NoDevMgrUpdate"=dword:00000000
>
> [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
> "NoUpdateCheck"=dword:00000000
>
> [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate]
> "DisableWindowsUpdateAccess"=dword:00000000
>
> [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
> "NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000000

Then try;

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997

For severe cases/method:

need to edit the registry:

Open Registry Editor:
GO to HKLM/Components

Export the Component to the desktop;
then delete any values except

PublisherPolicyChangeTime
StoreArchitecture
StoreFormatVerion

Hi, getting back to our other issues :)

I did run some of the programs, however, still some severe issues.

We need rebuild the WMI. can you help with that :)
Event viewer will not load

Security Essentials still has some issues loading again.
re-stalling MSE is a big headache...
running the msiexec /regserver command to see if that solves it before try to re-stall

Is this the same machine you had bad sectors with or a different machine?

yes, but it is also a global issue, MSFT already produced a fix overnight, you should grab that update!!!

this one;

you better to archive it :)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997

For severe cases/method:

On another issue, I would like to express some concerns I have with people downloading all the reg fixers in one program using your program, you should isolate them as packages on a webpage and only have have people download them as they need that fix, it will also help to isolate the real problems. This is a more professional way... It will result in a lot less people complaining too, especially if they only needed that one issue but in turn look to blame the whole tweaking system...

I think, know, it is a good plan.... I will hang around a while and add some two cents from time to time.

All the reg files I have in the program are ones that are the same on every system, so they are safe to run. I run and test the repair program on fresh installs of each version of Windows.

Also my repair tool does everything on that Microsoft page except installing the updates. And the system readiness tool does help a lot on systems as well. :-)
