Hi i was wondering if Windows 8 is as good as 7? Keeping in mind i have neither.

Heard a few comments about this, and majority say wait until Windows 8 is all sorted out.

I need honest opinions please.

Windows 8 has some good improvements under the hood, but their UI is so horrible I dumped 8 and went back to 7.

MS may or may not fix the 8 UI or they may just "patch" it to shut people up. But basically they want a piece of the app store pie and are going to get it one way or anther. That is the only reason for the new UI they have.

Windows 7 rocks, stick with it for now.

I hear that there is a free trial to put the user interface back to Windows previous interface?
Is the user interface the only reason you went back to 7?

What are the benefits of 8 over 7?

I have neither currently and are looking to but a new laptop.

MS is going to release Windows 8.1 later this year and will be a free update for Windows 8 users. BUT we don't know what UI changes they have made, people are saying the start menu will be back but disabled by default.

Who knows. I went back to 7 because the UI was annoying and they would have to do more than give the start menu back to fix that since I was using classic shell anyways for a start menu.

Windows 8 is a little faster than 7 but it is also way easier to break because of their stupid app store lol

Oh and you cant fully turn off UAC anymore in 8 because of the app store. You have to use a reg key to fully turn off the UAC (Which I always turn off, does nothing but teach users to click ok on everything that pops up) BUT if the UAC is off you cant download and use any apps from their app store.

Annoying things like that is why I went back to 7.

Would you recommend buying a Windows 7 machine while i can or purchase a Windows 7 disc?

Or possibly wait until 8 sorts it self out?

Appreciate your thoughts + you aren't a salesman for computers who try to push the latest (OK that's their job but not necessarily the correct option.

UAC = User Access Control
It is what pops up every time you want to run something as administrator. Suppose to help keep viruses out, doesnt come close lol

And yes stick With 7 for now.

MS has a long history of every other IS being good and the other bad.

Windows 3.1 = Bad (Only because it was the first of its kind)
Windows 95 = Good (Good as it was the starting point of home PCs growing like nothing else)
Windows 98 - Bad (Lots of new things since 95 but unstable and a lot of bugs and missing things)
Windows 98 SE = Good (Bugs worked out and became the most use OS before XP, and was levels better than 95)
Windows ME = Bad (Why the hell they put this out I don't know, but was one of the most unstable and unliked OS's besides vista)
Windows XP = Good (By SP3 XP was rocking and was on almost 95% of pcs)
Windows vista = Bad (Event though they fixed a lot of bugs and made it more stable the damage was done and still not as good as 7)
Windows 7 = Good (What vista should have been, but they pushed vista out to quick, kinks worked out, lower memory usage and faster core.)
Windows 8 = Bad (New UI changes back fired, they are trying to get a piece of the app store pie, seems to be their test bed for so many new things. The worse thing you can do is change the interface that generations have learned on, like taking a bullet in the foot on purpose. Change is good yes, but make change an option, no so drastic)
Windows 9 = Unknown (Will be out in a few years. MS has a way of learning from the last OS since they like to use every other one as a test bed for new things, then keep what worked and dump what didn't)

Only trouble i have neither 7 or 8?

Would you jump in and buy a new laptop with Windows 7 or the Windows 7 disc at least, before it is not available?

The reason is that i feel that my laptop in on its way out with screen issues (thread lines on screen).

What is good specs for a laptop e.g processor/size etc

You can still buy Windows 7 itself.

As for processor and memory try to get at least a 4 core cpu and at least 4gb of ram or more

As with every Windows you can only install it on 1 machine at a time.

A lot of times you can ask for a Windows 7 instead of 8 with the computer.

1. So if i got the disc only i could load on 1 computer then when that one broke so to speak i could use the disc again to load on the new computer, though hopefully Windows would have sorted the OS out?

2. Is it more economical to buy a new machine with 7 on it or just buy the disc only and wait for this laptop to go altogether and then load the 7 disc on a 8 machine?

See if you can get a machine with 7 on it. If not make sure to by an oem disc and not a reailt one, a lot cheaper.

What is a OEM disc stand for?

Should i get 32 bit or 64 bit?
What is the difference?

Original Equipment Manufacture

Basically when you buy any type of hardware you can buy an OEM disk which is way cheaper than retail

If the system has 3 GB of ram or less get 32 bit. More than that get 64 bit as 32 bit only supports up to 4gb (3gb usable) 64 bit is for anything above that.

Yes 64 bit will work with less than 3 GB, but 64 bit uses more memory. So keep that in mind.

I looked at laptops today

1. There are no laptops with Windows 7 only 8, they were asked to send back when 8 came out.

2. Processors i see are alot of I7, they are saying they are quad core, is this ok, and are they the same?

3. Any really good brand?

I am an AMD fan myself, the intel I7 I here is good.

Just make sure you at least get a quad core or better processor.

Brand doesnt matter as they all come with just a 1 year warranty. And for the processor you will need to use google and find out what they have an offer.

Some I7's are dual core others are 4 core.

2. Also you said that i could only load Windows 7 on one computer at a time, so this means i can load it on another computer once the new one breaks?

3. Can i revert Windows 8 back to 7 on all laptops?

Yes you can as long as your able to find drivers for Windows 7 for the laptop. To force people to 8 MS has had a lot of the mfg's not provide Windows 7 drivers and only offer Windows 8 drivers. BUT it is still the same hardware as their Windows 7 ones, so it is possible to find drivers for them

5. I have been told there is no Dial up connections on new computers is there a adapter that can be used?
I will be going over to broad band eventually.

6. I use a important program that was developed on Windows 7 and i have been in contact with the Developer and he said it he prefers Windows 7, should i stick with Windows 7 due to this?
