Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One) Program
« on: October 05, 2011, 07:38:40 pm »
Windows Repair does a good job on a lot of systems.

But on some systems there might be something that is out of whack that can make things worse.

Always make sure to do a system restore backup before using the program.

If you need help after using the repair tool just ask me and I will be more than happy to help. The more people I help the better I can make the repair program.

As of v1.3.0 I was able to not only fix all the problems the old versions caused for people but I also made sure it wouldn't happen again.
The problem was with the reg & file permissions and the trusted installer messing things up. I had the users who had problems from my old version run this new version and it fixed everything right up  :cheesy:

Again if you have trouble just let me know! It is the only way I can make the program better & safer

I’m running Vista home premium sp2 32 bit. I used the program when it was first put out, and seemed to fine. Then over a few days I notice that my ms updated stop working, then the ms help file stopped working. I went back and tried your fix on permissions file. It didn’t help and it got worse, the restore will not open, the program for setting up internet connection stopped working also the MS security (firewall and security program). The only thing that is the same is that they are all Microsoft programs. I have removed all but one antimalware program. And did several scans looking for a virus or malware, with no luck. I tried using some help from Majorgeeks support forum, with no luck. And I can’t get the system to go into the safe mode. Help

 Hi Shane; I just downloaded v1.3 on my other computer to repair what v1.1 broke.    When installing v1.3 I get two error messages: 1. ........ cannot open psexec.exe 2. ...... cannot open regini.exe. How do I get around this. I thought it was a bad download; but I tried again with the same results

Lets find out

send me an email and we will get on chat and get you fixed up.

also did you try running the new version in safe mode?

psexec.exe is the key to getting things working right. I found that while on my test systems everything worked fine that on some other systems the trusted installer in Windows got in the way. This messed up the permissions of some of the reg keys and thus broke things.

Running the new version will run the reg permissions repair as the system account, thus the trusted installer is no longer in the way and the reg permissions get set correctly.

Had 3 people do this and every problem they had from the old version of the program was fixed, and since this was able to fix more reg keys now since it wasn't being blocked by the trusted installer it helped fix even more problems :-)

So we need to find out why the psexec.exe isn't working for you. Antivirus? Something else in the back ground?
So lets try Safe mode. If Windows safe mode does the trick I am going to put in the program that for the best results run this program in safe mode.  :cheesy:

Looks like Safe mode wont work.

I wanted users to avoid their scanners and such getting in the way. But when I did a test run in Vista safe mode, psexec.exe crashes.

So looks like the repair tool will need to be ran in Windows normally

:cheesy: I downloaded it to a stick drive and ran it from there. It opened normally; so now I am running it. I will let you know what happens!

I remember your system now. It kept running out of resources.

Yours will be a good test to see how the new version does and any fine tuning I need to do. I will be back on chat when your online

v1.4.0 is out, make sure to update :-)

Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One) v1.4.0
http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html

v1.4.0
Removed the custom buttons from the program. It was causing the program to crash on some systems. Program is meant to repair, not look pretty, so ugly standard safe buttons it is :-)
Add new repair "Repair Windows Sidebar/Gadgets"
Changed the window size of the repair window, making it smaller and easier to fit on screen for smaller resolutions.
More code tweaks.

I have run the last Windows Repair Program, and most everything is running fine. Can't get the network and sharing center to see my home network, but still allows me online. But I keep getting this program popping up when I run the Repair program, DOCSIS Cable Modem Diagnostic. It seems to slow the Repair program, ran a search of my system and couldn't fine it to delete. Any ideas?

Just fixed a computer at one of my customers.

Windows 7 and nothing mmc wise would open. Computer manager, task scheduler none of those. Would give a class not registered.
Also the network icon showed a red X even though the internet worked. Also couldn't list any adapters.

Found the fix, and I will be adding it to the next version of the repair program :-)

Its amazing how 1 file can screw things up. Try this, open a command window and put in

regsvr32 mmcndmgr.dll

After I did that every problem I listed was fixed. That file is not in my repair tool for the register system files, but I will be adding it :-D

Nothing, still have the red X, also I'm running Vista and not windows 7 if that makes any difference. What about the Cable Modem program?

I have a vista test machine here, let me unreg that file and see if I can get the red x.

Also when you reg the file did it say it was successful?

Try this. Download the attached txt file.

In the windows repair folder you will see a files folder. In that folder is a txt file like the one you downloaded from this post. Replace that file with the one you downloaded.

I added a few more files that deal with the network icon to it.

Now start the windows repair, click unselect all and choose only the register system files repair.

once done reboot and let me know how it goes

I would like to get the red x fixed so I can add the fix to the program.

I am also curious on the program as well. Can you find out what process name it has in the task manager?
